Rim - Tire combination for road course
I plan on purchasing FI (Supercharger) in the future and was thinking about what rim size / tire size would be the best. I plan on purchasing four 20 X 9.5 with 275/ 35 or 40 tires. Should I re-consider and change the rear tires to 20 X 10.5 for better traction? Perhaps a 20 X 9.5 front and 20 X 10.5 rear? I don’t plan on drag racing allot, maybe once for the thrill of it. I do plan on running a rally type track.
This is the track http://www.ridgemotorsportspark.com Can I have one set for both daily driver and road course weekends. (that is until I can save for another set) |

Add this while your at it F14.
Here are the weights of the bare wheels. Tire weights vary depending on brand/model. Wheel Sizes/Weights (I've weighed each of these myself) 18x8.5 = 19.5 lbs 18x10 = 21 lbs 18x11 = 21.5 lbs 18x12 = 22.5 lbs 19x9 = 24 lbs 19x9.5 = 24.5 lbs 19x10 = 25 lbs 20x9 = 26.5 lbs 20x9.5 = 26.5 lbs 20x10.5 = 28 lbs 20x11 = 28 lbs 22x9 = 29.5 lbs 22x10.5 = 30.0 lbs |

Mmm, well I think I will go with the 20 x 9.5 as a rim.. Ah and gun metal
Then purchase 275 x 35 (hoping the 35 does not throw off my speedo by much) Continental ExtremeContact DWS weight per manufacture for that tire size is 28 lbs. so total weight with 20" would be 54.5 lbs. Not bad considering the steelies are at 69 lbs. That would be about 60 total lbs lost in the unsprung weight and rotational mass. |

What about the new TSW Tanaka rotary forged. These are available in 20x9.0 and 20x10.5.

Is it better to have a square set up versus having larger tires in the back for road courses?

Unless you've got big power (as in forced induction), yes.
The tire & wheel package for the 1LE is "square" in terms of tire size (285/35-20) but runs 1" wider rear wheels (11" vs 10"). Norm |

Also per nine ball the 20x10 I think is 28lbs... Though If I was worried about rotational mass I would also be looking at how far out is the mass from center. Meaning I would purchase 18" rims and say the hell with looks. |
