No shortage of opinions here but like a few others have said you should go with the Auto. No question. It's a daily driver. You want more power and have been driving a 4 cylinder. You will not be disappointed with an SS Automatic.
I've had 3 fifth generation Camaros, all manuals. If any of them were daily drivers they would have been Automatic. Also, anybody that knows anything about muscle cars knows that an Automatic always wins in a drag race. Don't listen to these guys pushing you to a manual. It has nothing to do with "being a man." That's a bunch of hogwash! |

You're going to have a smile on your face either way!! An auto is better for traffic, if you're consistently in traffic day in and day out, I'd probably go auto...just get it tuned ASAP to make the best of the 6L80e transmission. In my opinion manuals are a bit more fun - love shifting gears - but either way you can't go wrong. Especially coming from a 4 cyl!

auto - you always have the option of using the paddle shifters if you really want to control the shifting. After living in Montreal and driving over the bridges on a daily basis where you get stuck for around 30 to 45 minutes (minimum) of bumper to bumper traffic where you never get to let out the clutch completely i.e. riding the clutch the whole time it gets tiresome real quick having to use a clutch. Take a test drive and try out the paddle shifter option - IMHO it gives the best of both worlds trouble free traffic situations and the ability to shift when out of traffic and no clutch to worry about

for a lot of city driving you'd probably be better with an auto. but with that being said, I would still go manual if it were me. just no substitute for the real thing.

If you want a car to drive get an auto...
If you want to drive a car get a manual... I test drove the auto, manual, 6 and 8 cyl. The auto and paddle shift is great but just not the same as the shifting process of a stick. The 6 had plenty of power but did not give me the "shiver down the spine" of an 8 cyl. |

Well a lot of people who wanted a manual and settled for an auto have gone and traded for a manual. I can't say I've many go the other way.
If you're thinking about the manual just get it. You wont regret it.

Depends on what YOU want, I would drive both. I am on my second 5th Gen both V6 and both autos. They have redesigned the paddle shifters and the function of the paddle shifters. You can now access the paddle shifters without moving your hands from the 10 and 2 positions and changes the way they work. You can now engage the paddle shifters from the Drive mode, it stays in the "manual" mode temp and when you stop using them it goes back to "drive" non manual. I have a 2013 LT2.
But drive them all and see what you want. One more thing to know is the Auto V6 is not posi. The Auto V8 is posi... best of luck....

I got the auto because at first it was my DD, then shortly after it turned into my weekend car. I had it now for almost 2 years and haven't looked back. I live in a big city and I love the fact that I can just put her in auto and just cruise around, but at the same time I love having the paddle shifters for gear shifting and having fun. I personally love my car.

I would have to agree with Mikey. However, when I went with mine, I was really more concerned with the rest of the options, transmission was the last thing on my mind. However, with a 5 mile drive to work that takes 20-25 minutes, the auto does just fine.

It is ones own preference. You need to think back to when you used to drive a manual and whether you want to do it again. I grew up on stick and when I bought my Camaro last April I really wanted a manual because a muscle car, mines a V6 if you can call it that(I do), to me should have a manual and I had test drove both. The stick I test drove happened to be an SS. I didn't like the way the rpms hanged between gear changes, it took longer for the rpms to come down than it did for me to shift, I did not like that. When I decided I wanted to try the V6 it happened to be an auto. I bought the car and even though I live the northern part of the state where there is no such thing as bumper to bumper I don't regret buying the auto. I think it is because I am getting older, I am fat and lazy and didn't need a work out in the car.
I bought my car to enjoy the drive. It is my daily driver and that is the biggest reason for the auto. Now if it were a garage queen and only got driven on nice days I would have probably gotten a manual as I have enjoyed driving them on the past.Dean.

Should have mentioned, another reason I love my auto is mine had the auto start option and I love it. I have the option to fire it up this time of the year 5 minutes before I punch out so it is warming up when I climb in. Bad thing is GM's key fob is limited on range though. I have seen other aftermarket auto starts with twice the range. Luckily for me my car is visible and in range where I work.
Dean.
