I'm still using the 5.9 ohm resistor I made from an 8, 50, and 44 ohm resistor in parallel. The 44 ohm is made from two 22 ohm resistors in parallel
Maybe your terminology is just off, but, two 22's in parallel would be 11.

that is f*ing awesome!

radio shack carries 12V 10Amp relays with NC & NO contacts, might be worth a shot.

ok how about the dual MOSFET setup and does the resistor still go in the same place as the one with the relay??
Can someone confirm what is what I am holding off on ordering a resistor until I am sure I need them and where.

Yeah it was 2 in the morning when I wrote this so I'm kind of surprised that was my only mistake :P haha but yes I updated it!

Yeah I called around and it wasn't in stock anywhere so I saved $20 and just modified the one I first bought...

I haven't done anything with the dual MOSFET so your on your own there :P

Haha I only know this because I took physics last year and had a really good teacher! But make sure you sit down with him and learn it because its some good knowledge to have under your belt for the future!

UPDATE: So far I've been driving around and everything still seems fine! No errors or hyper blinking so I think the set up I described in my last post should work for everyone! And you can get everything from radio shack

12V Auto Relay (any auto store) has NC and NO contacts

Ok, here are updated schematics of both the MOSFET design (which no one has successfully built yet) and the relay design, confirmed to work by brettsimons.

The green wire it mentions is for the passenger side taillight and has a white stripe, for the driver's side the wire is yellow with a black stripe. Those wires need to be cut and attached to the labeled connections on the circuit. The other connection should be tapped into a black wire without cutting it.

Digikey parts for MOSFET design:
4x 2SK4017Q-ND
2x 296-21753-5-ND
2x 1N4001-E3/54GICT-ND
2x 445-8552-ND
2x DJA15CT-ND
1x 438-1019-ND
2x RT50J-5.0-ND
2x HM934-ND
2x A100204-ND

Parts for relay design:
2x 255-1239-ND
2x 296-21753-5-ND
6x 1N4001-E3/54GICT-ND
2x 445-8552-ND
2x DJA15CT-ND
1x 438-1019-ND
2x RT50J-5.0-ND
2x HM934-ND
2x A100204-ND

The box I selected may be overkill and puts the price around the $50 point for everything, but I figured a waterproof box would be a good idea. However, the one from Radioshack shown earlier should work fine and save money. You may also be able to get by with a 35 W resistor to save some money, but I would recommend a heat sink on it if you do, and don't blame me if melts...

thanks Highlifeman for the info looks like I will be doing the relay one seems I forgot to order the MOSFETs.

Highlifeman - I ordered parts too early on, and now that it looks like the design is perfected (I'm going the relay route since it's been done), would you mind looking at the parts list I ordered and tell me what parts I need to alter? I know I need to get the different relays, and the first design didn't include the load resistor, so I have to order again anyway. And ignore the quantities, I ordered extra when the parts were cheap since I had to pay for shipping anyway.
Thanks!!!

I like your choice of relay better than the one I listed, actually, except it doesn't have an NC terminal. Go with part #255-1239-ND for the version of it with an NC terminal. Other than that, the parts you ordered should work fine.

Great, thanks a bunch. And I plan on getting the better resistor you listed - no reason to cheap out on a cheap mod and watch something melt.

Appreciate the quick response!!!

Here's a quick video showing the timing of the circuit that we put together. The relay chosen is nice and small, too.

Just starting to work on building my circuit - any tricks to getting the relay pins to match up on the breadboard? Seems like there really isn't a wait to get it through the holes correctly . . . The 555 (the socket I got) fits perfectly . . .
I am just making sure that bending the pins is the way to go, or is there a trick?
