You can not make a safe quiet nice looking car and fast for the street for $60k and have it light weight.
They're still not selling COPO parts just yet.

I had four C6 corvettes before my ZL1, and it was time for a change until the high-performance versions of the C7 are released.

PS. I cant squeeze a 4.0 whipple in a vette. The vette is a really nice platform, but is a pain to work with due to packaging space/ cooling space restrictions.

I was doing a power to weight calculation and for a corvette to hang with a 1000bhp camaro, it only needs 800bhp, and this is not even factoring in for aerodynamics and other variables.

what do you guys think? Has anyone done anything for a STREET camaro as far as weight reduction goes? I know there are some threads but those involve making it more of a race car.
...if you wanna do battle, this is the body and chasis to go with....the upgrade factor is immense. Little if any needs to be done to the car except pile on horsepower. Thats why. It' stout, solid, strong, unweilding to physics, and it's competition is at a disadvantage. If you build, start with a strong foundation as this design. And there you have it....voila....the Camaro ZL1 has a much higher threshold of designed performance to achieve, just add some HP.

Cool

If you want a sports car buy a Corvette.

The original pony car concept has always been a 2+2 coupe. Always some semblance of practicality. I like the weight because I'll be doing a lot of driving on pretty marginal bumpy roads. I hope the suspension sophistication coupled with the weight will smooth it out!

The difference in weight come from the ZL1 having a much stronger and heavy duty transmisiion, rear end, axle and suspension system.

weight smoothes out the drive on bumpy roads? ever heard of shock valving? thats what one of the major players in the damping characteristics of the suspension. Adding weight isnt.

If you want a better handling car reduce the unsprung weight first.

The Camaro is a somewhat large 4 seater with an all steel construction. It will not be as light as a small plastic bodied 2 seat Corvette. This is easily worth a couple hundred kilos.

The reason why most of the weight reduction turns the cars into race cars not street cars is because the only place you can eliminate large amounts of weight on a car thats already been built is in the interior, and the cheapest (and most effective) is to just gut the thing. Making a factory replacement piece lighter, with all the same features (or more), is either very expensive or impossible. As such, it usually isn't done.

while my ZL1 is giving me great joy as my 2011 ss modded did.i wonder were one would say this is a america made car when the engine was build in mexico and the car was put together in canda?lol

Oh look, another person who likes to state that the engine is MANUFACTURED in Mexico and the car is ASSEMBLED in Canada.

Last I checked, General Motors (Detriot, Michigan, USA) designed the car and sent the plans to their factories to have the parts made and put together. Pretty sure you'd consider a Toyota an import right? Oh joke is on you, it's mostly assembled inside the UNITED STATES. Doesn't make it an american car.

Don't worry, the Gen6 Camaro's will be way more American than the Gen5 obviously, since they're moving the plant to Lansing, MI.
