many are saying that ECM swaps don't even work anymore. The dealer is still able to detect that you are swaping ECM's. Not sure how true this is. so it may be a waste of time.

...Wait, so I can make my car faster by just having someone do some computer work to it?
Why wouldn't GM already have maximized the Camaro's potential thru this computer adjustment(tune) thingy? I mean, it would really make the car look way better when doing camparo's with official publications, like MotorTrend or whatever...

GM has a history of very conservative tunes. I've owned and modified a 94z28, 99z28, 05GTO, and a 06 GTO. Each of these cars benifited greatly from a tune. The L99 A6 will really benifit from a tune because the shift points, shift firmness, and torque managment can be adjusted. That along with the extra HP and Torque can equal several tenth in a 1/4 mile. |

Soooooo after reading everything.. I'm seeing that one should buy a 2nd ECM.. and have it programed / tuned to improve the cars performance.... and pull your stock on out and save it until you need to go in for warranty work ???

Depends on who you ask. Some of the GM folks and GM techs say that the ECM's keep track of when they are removed, put in, and the miles put on the ECM. If this true then keeping the factory ECM for warranty work is pointless as they can deny your claim. Some dealers won't care if you tune it or not as long as it doesn't break anything, some will deny every claim for the smallest thing they can find.

Hey guys...this is a great thread for newbies like myself to get some real insight. I certainly appreciate all the knowledge that is being passed. I have what is likely a simple question which is, how much more HP can one expect to see as a result from a professional tune? Will it be enough to notice the difference in the SOTP?
Thanks Gents, and FYI I will be getting the 2SS with the manual 6 speed. |

It may not be quite that simple. First off I believe that switching PCMs on the 2010 Camaro would require a resetting at the crankshaft. I will check into that some more. Also depending on the modifications done to your Camaro it may not run or may switch to limp mode or indicate codes etc when switching back to the stock PCM. I do not think having two PCMs will be viable. But let's see what others can come up with and post here. Personally I will deal with the same Chevy dealer that I always have and they are mod friendly so I do not expect to many problems based on past experience. So I will not be getting a Second PCM.

Ok, I read the thread. Mine too (L99) is a pig. I'm totaly unexcited about my car right now. 6.2 0-60 sucks. And I have read and heard in other threads about GM 'conservatively' tuning their cars. BUT. Even so, my car and a number of others aren't getting the advertised performance. Not even close. Some L99s are, and some aren't. The are all supposed to be tuned the same. The LTs are faster than my SS and that isn't just 'conservative tuning', that's 'something is wrong'. Now it may be IN the tuning, but not intentionaly in the tuning.

So what type of places will tune your car? Car-X? Dobbs? Autozone? Sears? Any ideas?

All this information is vital to fixing the A6 performance issue! Good job and keep it coming! ![]() PS: Although a lot of people do it and it most likely will work, switching PCM's to keep your warranty is just not moral if your tune ends up breaking your car. I have heard of cobalt owners installing turbos on sc models and then blowing the motor and switching everything back to stock for warranty work. Thats just wrong... my .02 cents. |
