I bought ss bolts and washers from my local hardware store then took them to my local jeweler (me) sanded the sides and top smooth then put a killer high polish on em. They look great on the silver powder coated brace.

I was referring to the sae grade and hashes used on carbon alloy bolts (i.e. grade 5, grade 8 etc.)

I used chrome allen heads from Ace Hardware. Work and look great. ANYTHING is an improvement over the factory dull zinc coated ones.

Here are the ones that I put on my ZL1. You could get some round head allens. I used flat head allens and machined the numbers off the tops and then polished them on a polishing wheel attached to a bench grinder. The guy that did my paint work gave me the alluminium washers that he makes for the VW guys.

Ace Hardware has them in chrome and black chrome, which is what I got, with the allen heads. They also have the washers to go with them, so they are a perfect match to the bolts. The washers are just a little thin so watch how tight you make them, the washers on 4 of the 6 holes will bend. I don't know the torque for them but my original ones were barely snug. I left my ends of the brace factory and got the center section painted. So the black chrome looks awesome.
Once I figure out how to do the pictures with my phone and post I'll put them up. |
