I like it on luxury cars and even sports luxury, but not new sports/GT cars.

Like most other pre reveal photos I think we need to wait and see it in context. You are looking at a 2 foot section of a refresh. It's nothing more than a tease to evoke some emotion and thought to build excitement for another week.

And before anyone asks, as far as I know nobody has gotten press materials in advance. Apparently GM is sick and tired of leaks.

Take a 3.6 L, add two turbos (20 pounds each), add an aluminium radiator for a CAC (10 pounds) and then lets add 2 gallons of coolant (guessing on the abount but that's 16 pounds. Now let's add incrimentals for larger exhaust pipes, larger fuel injectors, larger intake plumbing and say that's another 5 pounds. All in that's ballpark 50 pounds. Now add the extra mass in the transmission and driveline to accomodate the 420 lb-ft of wonderful torque and you are at another 50 pounds or more.

The design efficiencies may or may not drive that number lower but I'm not sure you can put that engine in any car for less than a 100 pound penalty over a standard 3.6L.
Oh, certainly. I have no preconceived notions that it'll be any less than 100 lbs+ all told. But I doubt it'll be as much or more than 150. That is such an incredibly tight design...I'm still staring at it in awe.

I disagree...I think the new family of V8s is an integral part of that mean and greenness...Otherwise, they wouldn't have poured as much money into it as they did. ...02.

There is some grumbling among the engineers that did the new LT1 about the reduced state of power it was released with.

Something about 50 to 75 HP left on the table.

Holy hell, batman...that would be AWESOME!! (And totally unsurprising, IMHO)

The last time I got press materials beforehand was VIR/ZL1...since then, everything has been handed to us in person if we were invited...or emailed at midnight the night before...I think you're absolutely right.
