We are currently testing a new, smartphone/tablet-based control system for this and general interior lighting. It's looking good!

i want this but i have the stock textured door panels, not the smooth ones used for ABL. will these still work?

The door panels would need to have a clear strip at the top. It may be possible to shim the opaque ones and create a gap, but, I don't know for sure.
