Awesome. Had checked the site a couple of days ago, but didn't see an ETA.

Trip is still planned for the 18th/19th of May. Wonder if I can rent a Camaro from Hertz or something for the trip, lol.

The gates swung open at 1 p.m. this afternoon. Those who were waiting in line weren't neglected. Eastbound travelers were treated to Tootsie's cinnamon rolls while Westbound travelers got candy from Granny Winthrop. The pavement was bare and wet where it wasn't dry. It was chilly, but above freezing. (There appeared to be fewer hardy cyclists this year, but last year it 60 degrees.) This opening is 3 1/2 weeks earlier than last year's on May 10 even though the clearing only started one day earlier this year on March 25. There'll be a final set of pictures posted tomorrow.
This is the last reopening update you'll get. Any others between now and November or December when it closes will be traffic advisories for construction work or forest fires.

Bump, just because I'm still planning on doing the trip...which is now in a couple of weekends.

Any people still interested in tagging along on a beautiful drive in the Cascade Loop?

When? or will that be part of the return trip?

You know, I've always had the impression the Cascade Loop was both 20 and 2, in either direction. Maybe I'm wrong...

Regardless, I have to say that I haven't even gotten a place to stay yet over there. Since I'm only there one night, it'll probably be one of the cheaper motels further south from town...though I may see if Rio Vista can put me up for a single night.

Bummer it doesn't look like we are going to make it now. An unexpected bill has come up and we need to save our cash. It's not a cheap trip to Winthrop. Sorry I really wanted to make it.
