Jaguar's scheduled oil replacement: 15,000 miles
BMW scheduled oil replacement: 15,000 miles (All the manuals state it is controlled by CBS, which is their DIC and will change based on driving habits)

And then the one that I suppose answers the question best:

https://service.xw.gm.com/SCRWBWidge...chedule_Normal

7500 mile between oil change (if needed, can go further) for the Camaro.

The oil will hold up longer than 3000. But do not ignore, youngsters, that oil breakdown is only one factor. Contaminants get in the oil, regardless of the most incredible synthetic or a dino oil being used. The oil filter will get some of the solids, none of the others.

More frequent changes means a cleaner filter and getting the contaminants (solids, acids, etc) out of the engine.

Cheap investment in maximizing engine life. And the shorter change interval has served my cars extremely well over the years.

I will respect your opinions, beliefs, and rational for extending the oil change frequencies because of what you have read in the above referenced articles. I myself, will continue to use the best synthetic oils and change them at 3,000 mile intervals sometimes less than that. Keep in mind, these articles are for the most part referring to the "normal driving public". Even guys who do not frequent drag strips and road tracks, still put some hard driving miles on their Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers, Corvettes, etc. on the roads weekly, if not daily. And many are no longer stock. If you have a stock vehicle and use it as basic transportation, I can subscribe to the extended change intervals.

Keep in mind that you have a 2 gallon sump. It makes a little difference on the oil life compared to the average 1 gallon or 5 qt sump. Now if it isn't your daily driver and you do short trips, then early oil changes are required.

When in doubt, send off a sample to get analyzed. That will tell you exactly when to change your oil if you really want to get technical. I send mine off to Terry Dyson. He sends back a detailed mp3 file along with a pdf file explaining each wear metal and makes suggestions as to what might be needed if any to correct any issues.

So we save money by extending the oil change interval. Oops, maybe not, since we send out oil samples for analysis...

OP, my advice is to ignore the DIC. Set an interval. If you just can't bring yourself to do every 3000, then every 4000.

The incremental cost is minimal. But the fresh filter and oil will be enjoyed by your engine.

I have been doing this for over thirty years now. Using Castrol GTX (dino). And have never had an engine problem. Even on cars with up to 260,000 miles.

Perhaps I could squeeze out a few more bucks. But is it worth the risk of changing from what has been successful?

Service and Maintance Guide in the 2012 Camaro Manual says: The engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year.

Which can mean that your tire rotations may need to be done before your oil needs to be changed! Rotations are every 7,500 miles.

Manual says that when the "CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON" light comes on, you have 600 miles until it needs to be changed.

For me, it has been almost 10k miles and my car is at 15% oil life. New cars do a pretty good job at letting you know when you need an oil change when you ACTUALLY need an oil change. I hope this answers your question.

Hhhhhhhhhh. The oil life sensor will tell you when...... honestly I get my best mileage betweeen 70 and 30% life. Just check every 2000 miles and full her up when she's 1/2 low.

I change mine at 9,000 miles & the OLM indicates about 16% remaining.
btw, I was born a lot earlier than 1975.
