I would like to see dyno pulls of each and see how each engine is performing with each fuel under load. Under light loads, I doubt that there is much of any advantage to 91 or 93. My parents run 87 in their '95 Z28 which has the "old LT1" in it with a 10.5:1 compression ratio. It has over 120k miles on it, and it is still very responsive and runs like a top.

OK, on the dyno today a GM 3.6L came in with 87 octane. Here is the dyno run showing the detonation and power loss:

And after bringing it up to 93 octane:

I know were all just imagining this and all the years in R&D we have done on the 3.6 is meaningless, but somehow the dyno is making this up as well. Quite the conspiracy.

What did surprise me was peak HP was near the same, only in the lower RPM range where lugging the engine creating the most detonation is where it is night and day.

More to follow with LLT & LFX.

So for performance purposes 93 is more efficient for more usable low end torque.

you think that would end the debate, but it won't. the flat earth society of this board will still insist that only their's and others V8's benefit from premium.

We have more cars were going to do the same with...a LFX is next....but your correct. The flat earth society really could care less about facts and data....they just like to be bullies behind the keyboard.

I have an LFX, so definitely post those results when you get them. I'm curious as to the difference.

I thought the horsepower for the pre-direct injection 3.6L was around 255 horsepower?
