Hey Hey!! Don't point at me!! Subaru is Japanese!!

This is terrible though. Reminds me of the past stuff that has happened to my family's cars. Hell, my mothers car got left with no Oil in it after an oil change!! They had to replace the motor....

Been through that with my 1988 Beretta GT. Shell installed the wrong oil filter and it popped, oil gushed out and the engine seized before I knew what was going on. Sucked, but they did pay to have the engine rebuilt.

You'd definitely know it if a piece of metal that big was attached to your tire. It would vibrate.

I only said he sounded like one. But as Tag said, he's a nice guy and he should know I don't mean any disrespect, moderator or not.

Of course I would be pissed, but not at the audio place.

Everyone is saying it looks like scissors, but to me it still looks like a knife with the handle removed. And unless the other end of "whatever it is" is sharpened, there is no way you could jam that into a tire, even with a hammer. You would have to run over it. In the case of my tire with the wrench, I hit the wrench with the front tire, which must have kicked it up enough to make it jam into the rear tire.

If someone wanted to retaliate for some reason, they would just put a knife in the sidewall, it's a lot easier.

Looks like a sawzall blade. There is NO way you picked that up off the road. I hope the surprises are over. And nothing else,"pops" up.

1) You know that the 20" tires are very expensive, and should have purchased insurance.

2) Yes, you can get something like that in your tire while driving. In fact it would be impossible to put that knife in there backwards the way it is, even if you wanted to. I would say it can't happen at parking lot speeds, but it can happen. Check out the picture below, I drove over that wrench at about 35 MPH. And it's a double open end wrench. You wouldn't know if you ran over the knife becuase it immediately went flush with the outside of the tire.

3) The tire could probably be patched, but since it's rated at a zillion MPH, it's a liability for the tire place should you kill yourself later when it blows.

4) Blaming the audio company is childish. You ran over a big knife at some point, parked at their place and it went flat.

5) Isn't this the same car that you let have the tires burned off by some yahoos who were supposed to put on an exhaust? That's where I would have directed my anger if I were you.
And you some kind of clarvoyant genious?

I would agree it had to be run over to puncture the tire at a low speed. If it happened at a higher speed before Tag went top the shop, it would be hard not to notice. It is quite possible someone at the shop went for a little fun and picked it up. I would do the odometer reading before leaving it with anyone.

It has some road rash on it. Who knows when that happened. Seems to me it would have made some noise or left a mark on the wheelwell or fender if it happened anywhere other than their parking lot. I've used a lot of tools over the years, but i'm not going to pretend I can tell what that is without seeing the whole thing.

Just a thought Doug. Do you have names of the employees at the shop? You have your duty logs. Maybe cross reference? I just can't see someone puncturing the tread with something like that unless they propped it up and drove over it.

I know this will make me check into road hazard ins.

Since I know how to spell clairvoyant and genius, I guess the answer is YES.

Sorry dude, spelling does not make a genious. Perhaps you should look up and read some of Tag's previous posts since let's say, the very beginning of this forum. Learn about the man before you attemp to discredit him.
Show a little respect. Show me some real intelligence and I may one day be a fan of yours.

Maybe we can get back to the original topic for starters?

WOW..horrible story!
Just a couple things tho. There seem to be a lot of marks on the knife blade, as far as i can tell from the picture, as if it had been resting on a road and been driven over. Also what can happen is an object on the road can be made airborne after a car drives over it placing it at the appropriate angle to enter the tire. Also tires don't always go flat right away especially in such a case as this that the object is smooth and will seal the hole somewhat. Anyway just saying there could be other explanations.

Also although the tire could probably be patched it would never be safe enough to rely on at speed. The blade of the knife would have cut through a lot of steel cords. If it was me however i would patch it and keep it in case you ever have a situation where you need a tire and can't get one right away.

I know most (or all) have pegged responsibility on the stereo shop but i thought i would offer an alternative view.

P.S i have been a licensed class A mechanic for about 20 years and spent the first 2 years of my apprenticeship changing tires and batteries

tag 2 things:

1. get your old tire back. get it patched, if possible, & save it for a rainy day.
2. try & find out what type of knife that is? Strage lookin', with those 2 holes in there, and/or see if there is a matching knife elswhere in the shop...

The end sticking in the tire is the part where a handle would have been. Looks like a plain ole steak knife that had the handle and most of the blade broken away from it. JMO.
