BEST extra mod you can do for this shifter is the Brass Bushings.. those plastic ones suck bad... the first pair i had were shit.. had to order new ones... then those wore out... get the brass ones.

Got my shifter today....wooohoooo.
The box comes with a noise dampening kit and it says to install ONLY if there is an audible noise or vibration. Then it says to ONLY install the dampening rubber and if that doesnt work then install the rubber bushing. Now common sense and preventative maintenance tells me to install everything now....anyone see a problem with this? Dont know if I can wait for the brass bushings.....i want it in right away!! Thanks.

Personally, I would wait for the bushings. I have the bushings but, now I have to remove the shifter to install them. That rubber boot is a PAIN!!!

So I got the shifter in...took 4-5 hrs. It would be nice if the m6x1 bolts that Hurst supplies are a little longer. If you dont get them right the first time they are too short to use, even after you tap the hole. The two biggest pains are the little screws in the retainer plate and getting the dust boot back on...a lift would be the best way to do this job !!!
Anyway, the shifter is shorter, tighter and stiffer than stock, but not as smooth as I found myself looking for gears, and it takes a bit more force to get it into gear. There is definately an audible noise when you shift into gear and you can "feel" the gears more so than stock. Gotta be careful shifting from 5-6, as it wants to go back to 4th. No problem going from 5 or 6 into 3rd though. Hopefully it loosens up a bit over time.

If you are going to do this instal, I WOULD STRONGLY, HIGHLY, WITHOUT A FREAKING DOUBT THIS IS A MUST DO, add these brass bushings instead of the nylon bushings that come with the kit.
They can be found in several places on this forum. There's a couple guys who've made them on their own and have a couple extra sets as well as a vendor here that sells them (but is currently out of stock as of this post). Again, these are a MUST. I replaced mine and it truly made a WORLD of difference! |

I installed my Hurst shifter over the weekend. Took just under two hours, now that o know what to do, I can do it in about an hour. Thanks for posting the pics and video clips. It was very helpful. Love the new shifter. Looks awesome and makes driving tthe Camaro even more fun.

So I couldnt believe how much play was in my shifter today and I thought it felt way too loose and it seemed like it was falling apart, so I took the boot off and discovered the screws had come loose holding the upper and lower handle together....I couldve sworn I tightened them suckers up with all my might. Anyway I put the rubber damper back in, used some loctite and wrenched the suckers down this time. The bushings are still worn but feels much better.
