FYI, local dealer got in another SS/RS car with non RS taillights. How about a comment from FBODFATHER on what is going on here. Did GM make a running change here to remove the dark tint taillights from RS optioned cars ??

Whilst I epathise with you greatly, wtf does this have to do with it being outsourced to mexico? I find your comment "high school" drama'ish and offensive. Dont you dare say EVEYTHING made in USA is perfect. Nothing is perfect and neither is any auto maker. When 1000's of cars are sold there will be someone with issues. Unfortunately it was you. Im sorry, I feel for you but let them sort the mistake out. RESPECT!

GMs fault for putting the wrong taillights on
Truckers fault for probably swerving and messing up your panel Your fault for accepting it in the condition it is. 33%-33%-33% blame sound fair? GM needs to make this right tho

I would like to believe your story but somehow cant. You are the only person reporting of these taillight differences.

maybe the supplier is putting RS tails in LT/SS boxes???? if they are labeled as RS then the supplier is packaging them wrong, they may not notice all 4 being wrong in QC, and the one being correct may have been missed in a reflection or something

Red SS badges = RS optioned car.
No, dealer confirms that there are other RS optioned cars with wrong taillights AND replacements sent from Mexico are wrong also. "Taking delivery of Damaged Camaro", um, dealer stands there and puts in writing to repair and replace defects BUT CANNOT gets parts from GM. Some of you need to think before you type. |

There is a lesson to be leaned from every experience. When you pick up your new car take the time to completely inspect the car before you drive off. This means top & bottom. Don't tell the dealer to leave the car alone & not touch it. Don't be overwhelmed by the euphoria of finally being able to drive off into the sunset. Because, if you do not check everything, some friend of yours will point it out to you as soon as you get home & the process of driving yourself crazy has started. All that being said, the only thing that gets painted at the final assembly plant is the body of the car, this means no bumpers or bolt on or screw on parts. All of these parts are painted by individual suppliers. So be carefull when you sign on the dotted line, after all, you have waited for what seems like a lifetime for the car, a few more minutes won't hurt.

I second that. I bought my Cobalt with some dealer dress-up add ons, including wheels. The car had a faulty battery from the factory which was replaced by the dealership before I took delivery and they threw in an extended warranty for my troubles, so during delivery I was more concerned about making sure everything mechanical and electrical checked out. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the new wheels the dealer put on were slightly mismatched. They were the same size, but the wheels on the right side had a deeper lip than the wheels on the left. I realized this later and told the dealership, but they said their intent was the put the deeper lips on the back, shallow lips on the front for a staggered look, so rotating the wheels to that position was the extent of the fix I could get out of them. Then when rotating the wheels they apparently overtightened a lug, which sheered off the next day. I was in a different city and couldn't get it back to the same dealer, so I had another dealer fix it but can't get the dealer that caused it to reimburse me. The tires were also a size too big - they fit on the wheel but were bigger than the stock wheel-tire overall height. Once I fixed that, the car drove much, much better. Everything - braking, handling, ride - was noticeably better*. Still can't get the dealer to reimburse that either. So the moral of the story is to break out the white gloves and magnifying glass when you take delivery. Look at everything, especially if it is something the dealer might have screwed up. It is far easier to get things fixed before they close the sale than after. Look how they threw in an extended warranty on their own initiative after the battery had to be replaced before delivery, just to keep my sale, but they didn't do anything to help me later.
* A note about tire size. This is tangential to the thread, but a while back when poor reviews of the Hennesy Camaro's suspension came out on Edmunds we were concerned about Pedders, which supplied the suspension. I think the tires used had a lot to do with it. Anytime tire height is changed from stock you're compromising the suspension design and driving dynamics will be affected. In this case I think the car was simply overtired and the suspension wasn't altered to match. OK sorry for the thread jack. Back to the problem at hand...

Hey man just realized those were not pics of your actual car. It was just used to demonstrate the diff between RS and non RS lights. Mea Culpa. Not sure what I was thinking... not even right color of red.
