That's kind of a bogus statement considering there was no SS from 82-92.

The Camaro might have been faster, but the Mustang was the better car.

The Mustang outsold the 4th gen Camaro 4 to 1. It was better handling, had better brakes, and it was easier to drive and live with. It was definitely the better car. After 72 to about 93, what they put out as "performance" cars was en embarrassment to both brands, but the Mustang still sold well.

That being said, I miss my 98 Z28 sometimes, but not when I sit in one or drive by one lol

2011 Toyota camry sold 308,000 units, Mustang sold 70,000. So the camry is a better car than the Stang?
production numbers mean nothing about the Car itself. only the consumer.

Can you explain opportunities and longevity?

I don't argue that the SS has been slightly faster, however, not for 44 years.

In the 70's, the fastest Mustang (Non-Boss 429) was the crappy Windsor 351 you mentioned which was a tick faster than the 1970 Z/28 HC Camaro.

Granted, the Mustangs never were built with a big motor or came with a lot of HP. I think Mustangs stepped it up when the 03/04 Cobra debuted and destroyed the entire Chevy line-up aside from a C5Z (Close race, but the Z was still faster) and the Mach 1, etc.

The 05-09 Model, including the 2010 model which were still current when the SS came out, you are talking a 120+ HP difference and a lot of cubes. However, I've seen plenty of 13.3-13.4 runs out of stock 3V cars, where as most SS's and the Auto's were bottom 13's and high 12's. I'd say despite the LARGE HP and Cube gap, the Mustang was hot on the Camaro's trail, but still fell short in the long run.

All in all, both are great cars. You cannot simply say the Camaro was outright faster every year considering the near 8 year gap they stopped making them and also the 70's were a different story. Now, you are talking about the Standard Mustang. If you compare the fastest with the Fastest, the 67' GT500 was faster than every single model year Camaro until the 4th gen debuted.

Shelby is cheating. =]

oportunities- LS is a better platform for mods. yes they will be a little more $.

Longevity- you have to purposely break an LS. 5.0..... time will tell.....
but all it is, is a truck engine with a different top half..... and ford trucks (with ford being my choice of truck, only truck i would buy with mymoney is a Raptor.) are not exactly the sturdiest of engines.

Well by your logic, then the Camry is even better then the Camaro...No, when comparing two cars in the same class, such as Mustang and Camaro, two cars that are pitted against each other in the real world and magazines, the Mustang is a better car. Like I said, it drove better, handled better, and was easier to live with, that's what made it a better car. It outsold the 4th gen Fbody because of those characteristics.
