All of GM's engine covers are lame. They're nothing more than plastic slabs to hide the engine so they don't have to bother making things look nice. This is how you do an engine cover:
![]() Notice the beautiful heads are still visible. Nothing is hiding under a cheap plastic blanket. The cover is only there as trim, like a picture frame.

I don't have my car as of yet but when I looked under the hood of the 2LT that I test drove I did not like the engine cover. I would be interested in another that would dress the engine bay up a litte more.

fwiw, the engine cover is identical (swap the bowtie for a crest) to the one used on this engine in Cadillacs.
![]() Take it off or replace it if you want...just be thankful they didn't pass the engineering/designing costs of making the engine look "pretty" on to you. ![]() Quote:

I like the stock cover, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to find something I like more to customize it. Most that I've seen are only V8 for now, understandably. Hopefully they'll come over to us soon.

I had two guys at a car show arguing over the cover. One said it was a V6 and the other said it was a V8 and he told him to count the notches, lol.

Dragon, my point is, the cover enhanced the engine. It didn't hide it. The V6 cover especially, but the V8 as well, are little more than plain, slightly sculpted blankets of plastic that hide stuff. They're almost like a second hood. And no, I wouldn't mind a few development bucks spent on a neatly arranged, presentable engine bay. I'm not opposed to quality design and workmanship.

If the design you create adds some pizazz, I'd buy one.
Also, I think I would paint mine in the mean time if I could figure out what paint to use. I'm not sure that the plastic paints that are made for patio furniture will hold up to the heat under the hood. When I've checked the cover after driving the car it is quite toasty. High heat paint made for engine parts does not seem to be compatible with plastic. So, there's my dilemma. -Dave |

The stock black plastic looks just OK - I'd prefer a silver cover as seen on the pre-production cars, unsure if those were painted silver or they were metal. IF I went to replace I'd look to find one of the silver versions.
I have been thinking about removing the stock cover for now. Unsure if it helps keep the hood liner a little cleaner than if running open - I really like the indented bow tie in the hood liner and want to try to keep it clean.

I've taken mine off with the intent to modify or paint it. I'd definitely be interested in a customized cover for this LLT High Feature V6 engine.

Agreed Dragon, the Corvette is how you really do an engine bay.
