Excellent write up, and the video post is also very helpful.
Just a note to anyone who is running out to buy brand new filters:
Like everything, the period for replacing the cabin air filter is a balance. The 2012 Camaro Owner's Manual states every 22,500 miles, and is probably a reasonable estimate.

I just changed mine the other day as well and it looked very similar. I have a little over 32k miles on the OD. I bought the WIX filter from my local parts store and it was $40! Oh well, it's not like I'm going to be changing this every 5k miles, only seasonally..lol

I did mine last weekend ordering the TYC from the links in this DIY. Mine was just as dirty as all of yours with 39k on the clock. It's nice to know there's cleaner air coming into the cabin.

Thanks for the great post and pics guys.
My AC compressor was replaced, and I figured it was as good a time as any to replace the cabin filter. Thanks to the great instructions posted above, the whole affair took about 5 minutes. A word of caution- when trying to remove the filter housing, the gasket had gotten stuck. I just had to pull pretty hard. This is probably due to misuse. My filter was totally gross and full of grime and debris.
