Yes, I left Mopar out, but let's face facts, the Challenger just isn't competitive with the Mustang GT or Camaro SS. The car is too heavy and all around performance suffers.

As far as rivalry is concerned I think the Ford/Chevy, Mustang/Camaro rivalry is just bigger all around. Sorry for leaving the Mopar out in the cold, they should be used to it by now.

LOL, you have seen what a 392 SRT8 cars can do right? And you do know about the supercharged Hemi coming right? The Camaro isn't that much lighter than the Challenger.

Not all imports are rice and not all rice is imported......
I hold a grudge against imports for destroying the street racing scene in SoCal. They came out to the street races driving like jerks and attracting all kinds of unwanted attention. So the riced out Honda/Acura/Nissan cars always draw the most contempt in my heart, knowing they caused a crack down in street racing that is still felt today. Scumbags for sure.

PS I don't car how fast they are, or how tastefully they are built, I'd take a Chevy Beretta before I concede defeat to those ricers.

OP, I thought the animosity was out of control as well, so I posed this thread and got a lot of positive responses... Camaro and mustang allegiance isn't mutually exclusive...

I have seen the awesome performance of the 392, quite an impressive engine. But the platform holds it back IMO. It lacks the refinement and performance of the Camaro and Mustang. It doesn't handle well or stop well. I would, without a doubt pick a Camaro or Mustang over the fantastic looking Challenger.

Competition and trash talk goes together both brings out the best .

LOL thanx , The camaro made the mustang put dual exhaust on all models and made the mustang up it's horsepower on all models. They made Ford make all of the mustangs respectable to drive and buy. You're welcome

Have you driven a Challenger SRT8? When you buy a SRT you get a free track day. I went to Daytona with mine & was able to beat on SRT8 Challengers, Chargers, Jeeps & 300s. All are great handling machines. The 392 is a beast of an engine. The brakes never faded even with 8hrs of abuse.

Owning a Camaro SS/RS, Challenger SRT8 & Mustang GT I have a lot of seat time in them. The Camaro is the slowest of the 3. You have to work hard to get the Mustang to handle the curves well but it can be done. The brakes suck on the Mustang GT & fad after a little bit of hard use making the Mustang feel the heaviest of the 3. The Camaro SS & Challenger SRT8 brakes work great making the cars feel lighter than they are & they both handle the curves effortlessly.

Really, all the tests I have seen puts the SRT8s handling figures right with the Camaro SS. Also the platform was redone in 11 and since has gotten rave reviews on it's handling abilities. the 12+ adjustable suspension from bilstien is even better. As for braking, it is fine too, it comes with bigger Brembos than the SS has. The Challenger and Camaro platforms have FAR more in common than they do not.

Soooooo far off. You realize until the 5th gen, even when Camaros were being made, the Mustang outsold the Camaro and Firebird COMBINED 2 to 1. You also realize the 5.0 was in development YEARS before the Camaro hit the streets. So far this year the Camaro and Mustang have been neck and neck in sales, seemingly switching places every month. As for dual exhausts on the V6s, alright, that is such a big deal. THat is not something that would make or break a sale. IMHO it had more to do with letting the 3.7 breathe than getting 2 exhaust tips to match the Camaro, not to mention I am sure it helped that only needed to produce 1 rear bumper cover for the GT and V6 now instead of 2 seperate ones.

I have driven a 300C, 2009 Challenger SRT8 and a 2007 SRT8 Jeep. The cars were fun to drive, the Jeep had a Vortech on it so it was wild! I haven't had the opportunity to drive a newer SRT8 with a 392 and a stick, I'd imagine its awesome.

All I'm saying is I would prefer a Mustang GT with a track pack or a Camaro SS more. That isn't even considering a Boss or 1LE, just food for thought.

Congrats on owning all 3, I'm jealous.

You realize the suspensions on the Challenger, Charger, and 300 were all HEAVILY revsed for 2011. All SRT8s since 2012, besides the new Core models and the Superbee, also added a Bilstien adjustable suspension. They handle every bit as good, if not better, than a current SS. That said the 15 models are getting major revisions. All are getting the new supercharged Hemi, the 8 speed auto will be replace the 5 speed across the board, the Challenger is supposed to be completely revised getting an interior more along the lines of the other current LX cars, and supposedly lighter weight. Should be really interesting. Ans of course the 1LE/Boss are better handlers, that is there mission and Chrysler has not even pretended to come out with a competitor......
