No, but if your intake valves are coked with deposits, intake manifold is soaked with oil and etc . that could result in power loss so you could re gain that power you lost.

My manifold was literally soaked in oil but my car has always trapped what it should so I don't think on these low mileage engines you will see any gains. It should run slightly smoother.

This is more of a preventative procedure that should be coupled with a catch can to cover you once you hit like 100,000 miles and beyond. Its better to do earlier in the engine's life because later on the risk of damage increases.

So after about 150 miles post oil change from this my car definitely feels better. Idle's better and feels more consistent, if that makes any sense.

Just did this to my car yesterday. 75,000 miles and a catch can for the last 3 months. Emptied my catch can before it all just to see what it had in it. Drained almost an 1" into a pop bottle. Had an upper induction cleaning about three months ago and now wondering what they did because my car smoked like crazy! Took it for a drive "spiritedly" and blew a James Bond smoke screen for the next 5-6 times of flooring it. Now I have a check engine light on! Seems to be running ok though and knowing its cleaner is good peace of mind! I still highly recommend this being done at definitely get a catch can! Thanks for the write-up! It helped a lot!

Noob question: If I remove the plenum cover will I have to get a new gasket to replace the old one?

Part of me is thinking about doing this on my 04 cavalier DD. thought maybe if I did this, it would help the engine run a little smoother.

Couple of thoughts after reading this thread:

1) Hydro locking is a concern with any liquid, whether it's petroleum based or not, so do be careful about how fast you pour anything in.

2) There seems to be an assumption that more smoke means the engine was more dirty. What backs up that assumption? If you add only a few drops of motor oil to the intake, you'll get more smoke than you probably think you would.

So your #2 backs up the claim that more motor oil would cause more smoke...

Ah, so the assumption here is that the "crud" that Seafoam is removing is composed of motor oil and that is what is causing the smoke. But I wonder if Seafoam itself causes smoke?

Would sure be interesting to see some before/afters of the intake components.

Yes that how you know how dirty your engine was.

But little too no smoke could mean two things.

1. Engine isn't that dirty.

2. The seafoam didn't removed the build up as it's to worked into the engine. Which could require another treatment or a manual cleaning to get the build up out.

I just bought my 2011 Camaro LS and it now has 22K miles. I need to see if it has a catch can first. This car is very new to me so I may be googling what alot or where alot of the vacuum hoses are. Makes my blood pressure rise just thinking about it.

Search for my thread titled "my dirty, dirty intake" (or something like that). I pulled my IM, took pics of my intake valves and the carbon buildup, reassembled, Seafoamed, pulled the IM again and took after pics before manually cleaning the valves.

The result was that the oily gunk with globs of goo that coated the inside of my IM was gone (though replaced with a coating of Seafoam), and the carbon buildup on my valves was slightly improved.

I still ended up cleaning them by hand. So it helped some, but not a lot.

I used Seafoam on my lawn mower when it was running rough. It smoked as bad as when I used it on a car.
