I'm fairly certain that the MyLink head unit indexes 10,000.

However, I've performed a number of tests to prove my previous findings. For example: You have only 1 album on the iPod with say ... 10 songs. If 3 of those songs exceed a certain title length, only 7 will show up when the album is selected. Adjust the title lengths on those 3 songs, and all 10 songs will show up.

When I purchased my car, I was pretty impressed with the presentation of the MyLink interface. However, I noticed this issue when I attempted to plug my iPod into the USB port. When I would select an artist and proceed to one of that artist's albums, songs were missing from the listing. Initially, I figured that this would be caused by song categorization issues stemming from iTunes. After a good deal of investigation, I found this not to be the case.

Then it hit me.

The majority of the songs that were missing in the album listings in MyLink had something in common. Most of those songs had unusually lengthy song titles. Accessing the iPod through iTunes and shortening the song titles made the songs visible in MyLink when accessing songs by album. Simply put: the number of characters in a song title effects MyLink's ability to categorize them. When a certain number of characters is exceeded in the song title, MyLink can no longer categorize the song by album, and the song disappears from the album's listings.

That wasn't the end of it, though.

A smaller number of songs were still missing. I tracked down these songs and found out that they also shared something in common. Songs with periods in the titles are also unable to be categorized properly by MyLink. Removing periods from those titles caused those songs to resurface, as well.

So, if you want your iPod's songs to show up properly in the MyLink interface, you will need to shorten the song titles and remove extraneous periods from the song titles.

Let's hope that Chevy issues an update to fix these issues.
I can look into this, if you would like. We have a specific department that handles MyLink concerns.

I just need your first and last name, address, phone number, VIN, mileage, and the dealership that you work with.

This is for anyone to freely reply to.

I'll send my information over to you in the next few days. I'd like to spend a little more time exploring the issue to see if I can nail down exactly what the limit is on characters in the song titles. The limit isn't quite as clear cut as I anticipated. I'm 100% certain on the issue with periods in the song titles, but the total allowed number of characters that causes the songs to disappear seems to vary to some degree.

I hope you get your issues sorted out Markbot. One thing a lot of people end up doing, (including myself) is buying a USB flash drive and sticking all the music on one of those. They're really inexpensive and work well on the older Camaro head unit. I'm sure they work just as well with the new My Link head unit.

The reason why I use a flash drive was because my Zune would end up draining itself if I didn't power it off, and it was a little glitchy. The nice thing about a flash drive is you can leave it in your Camaro without worrying about it, it takes up zero space, and will almost always be reliable. It takes about 30 seconds or so to index when I fire up my car, but after it's done doing a quick index, I can browse it like normal. Mileage will vary with quality of flash drive.

I have concluded my investigation on the issue.

The issue that I was experiencing is solely caused by periods within song titles. I was initially convinced that the length of song titles contributed to songs going missing in MyLink. However, it just so happens that the longest song titles often contain periods. For example:

"Battle Hymn (feat. Apathy, King Syze, Crypt the Warchild, Jus Allah, Esoteric, Blacastan, Celph Titled & Planetary)"

That song title is massive due to the list of featured artists within the title. The period after "feat" causes the song to disappear from its respective album. Removing that period causes the song to reappear. I had initially assumed that the length of the song was the cause, but I tested simply removing the period, and it resolved the issue just the same. I subsequently went through all of the songs on my iPod and removed all periods that occurred within song titles, and now my issue is entirely gone. All songs are present within their respective albums in MyLink.

On a side note, exceeding the 10,000 song indexing limit will also cause songs to disappear, but that is separate from the issue that I experienced.

Sounds like Mygig but that would be about right since they both run QNX - I have concluded that it is treating everything after the period as a dot extension format. Good work and now that solved a mystery I tried it on the Mygig as well after reading this and your theory solved that for me on both the GM and Dodge. Thanks

Thank you for the update. I will document this as further feedback in our database.

I'm having the same issue and I don't have 10,000 songs, and the titles don't have punctuation in them
