Oil Oil Oil, which to chose?
Changing my oil for the first time is coming up towards the end of October before storage. Yes, I can search other threads, but a forum is for small talk isn't it?
Whats the best oil I should chose for my SS oil change? Is it Mobile 1? Also, which type of oil filter is best?

After reading a million threads about it I think I'm just going to go with Mobil 1. I used it in my Vette's and never had any issues so I think I may just stick with what I've used before. I change my oil every 5000 miles and 75% of my miles are on the freeway so I'm not sure some of the real expensive oils would even be worth it. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I have been using Pennzoil Platinum, Ive noticed it keeps the valvetrain a little quieter. Mobil 1 is good, I use to use it... may start using it again. For a filter? Wix all the way!

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic here, works well, but takes a long time to get warm with it.

I am trying out Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30, which is built for the European market and is Dexos 2 approved. It has an HTHS of 3.5 so it should take some pounding, but it is low in ZDDP which may or may not be critical for this engine. I sent in an oil analysis for my Pennzoil Platinum to use as a base line.

Spin the big wheel of oil. Most all major brands (dino, semi and synthetic) will do well. The key is regular changes. As for filters, most are good as well, but I'd steer clear of fram..

Any of the dexso1 oils and 5k oil changes and sleep well.
When was the last time anyone had an engine go bad due to the oil causing the problem? Besides, most don't keep their vehicles long enough to make a difference. |

I use pennzoil ultra! With a K&N synthetic filter. So far so good. According to the onstar monthly report it's not due for a change until 15k and i put the ultra In at around 8k

Question about oil. A mechanic friend of mine has suggested I check out an oil called Motul. Does anybody here have any personal knowledge of this product. I have not even seen this product mentioned on this forum.

Here is my oil analysis report from BlackStone. Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30, PF48 AC filter, and AC ZL1 air filter. The ZL1 air filter offers more flow but was concerned until this report that it might let in more dirt.
