lol. all gas sold in the US has to meet certain standards set buy the feds. any gas in your area is going to be 99.9% the same anyway. they're all buying from the same wholesalers. you don't think walmart and krogers are running their own refineries do you?

Owners manual says top tier gas should be used. However, there are none near me. I usually use Sunoco but will go to the Gulf down the road if I have to. Only difference between brands are the additives that are put in at the terminal.

I can only get 93 octane @ Phillips stations in my city...so, Phillips is where I buy my gas.

Oh crap. I forgot about the top tier thing. I've never noticed it on a pump, but I've never remembered to look for it either. I just filled up a couple hours ago too. Maybe next time...

In northwest Iowa, all the 93 has alcohol, the 91 is alcohol free. I can't tell the difference in the two in performance, but there is a difference in mileage. I usually get 3-4 more MPG with the 91 non-alcohol.

All this talk about which the best gas is. Well there's a reason I use Chevron. Because a short Vietnamese fellow told me it was the best. He also happen to have a Phd in Chemistry and worked for Chevron in one of there labs developing alternative fuel sources, anyway.
The deal was about 5 years ago that Chevron was superior because of additives across all octanes. Shell, at the time, had an equally superior premium octane but they weren't putting additives in the lower grade fuels. Has that changed? I don't know but my guess is yes. BP now has that invigorate they put in, is it as good? I don't know, go find your own short Vietnamese Phd and ask him. But where I'm from, BP left a bad taste in my mouth from that small accident they had that dirtied up my beach a little, so I don't buy from them. The gas may come from the same spot, but I can control who profits off of me.

yes, they all put about the same additives in now, it's much more regulated than it was even 5 yrs ago. that's also played a role in the price going up. and you have to remember, your talking about a gallon or two of additives per tanker truck. I think those hold about 10,000 gallons. |
