I guess that's my point. More than a 52 week production window is going to result in far more vehicles produced for the model year. Just trying to say there is no way GM would cut-off production at 40k, 60k or anything less than what they have the capability and demand to produce. I get the supply/demand aspect of macro-economics but right now GM would not supress supply to increase desirability of any vehicle in a pent-up demand market. So you're right. Even my numbers stated could end-up being low, however, with the economy being what it is I doubt they reach a plateau much greater than that.

Usually new models come out around July\August. When there is a re-design or a new model they introduce it as early as Feb. Which means in all likely hood that the 2011 wont be out until next July\August after the plant does the summer turnover. That means that in total from March 16th until at least next June they will have built about 8000 Camaros per month. If they dont break 100,000 this first year, they will come awfully close. This is assuming that demand remains. If not they will stop Saturdays and cut shifts etc.. and then you would see less. The numbers don't lie however. If they keep building at the same pace they are building now until the end of the model year, we are looking at 90,000 plus units.

For a specialty car like this that would be great numbers for GM.

Nevermind. I recant.
They are making 95-100% as many as they can in a single shift, plus OT on Saturday... without going to a second shift or another factory to build them, they are at or almost right at full capacity...
Personally I'd rather have OSHAWA's only shift make mine

By they do you mean GM? GM get's nothing over invoice for the car... and the dealers have no say in what the invoice is... So why would "they" GM want to keep demand high so we all have to pay over MSRP?...

Keep the dealerships alive in hurting times, and keep the car a strong Icon for GM. Justify raising invoice for the 2011 models.

What he meant to say is

This car may well save GM but i doubt it. If they want to save GM, they CAN pay back Obama and the government as fast as they can. Then STOP MAKING all models that don't sell and give the chevy truck a real motor. THAT WILL make it really the truck it could be. The Camaro is all i knew GM could build, now make a truck to match.!! I WOULD buy three if they make a 350 rwh truck with 1/2 ton plus towing and then they are in the game

I think this car wil help put GM on the right track. Saving GM was done by all the bailout money they received. If they can start producing hit cars like this every year GM wil flourish.

I agree. GM would have gone bankrupt 10 years ago if it wasn't for GMAC. GMAC accounted for a very large percentage of GM's profts during those 10 years due to subprime mortgage lending. GM doesn't have GMAC anymore, which lost billions due to the housing market coming back to normal. The other "profits" GM had during the past 10 years were from high margin SUV's, whose sales have tanked.

Cars actually make very little profit for GM and considering all the billions we've sunk into them to keep it afloat, there is virtually 0 chance of them ever turning a real profit again, much less paying back billions they took.

BS, GM is going to flood the market with as many Camaro's as they can make and the market will bare.

Pretty soon we'll be seeing as many Camaro's as Mustangs.

Keep pumping them out. GM needs all the good news and sales it can muster.
