It seems that from reading this thread, most who don't own a ZL1 say no, while others who do say yes. It has to be truly experienced to be appreciated as such. I consider the GT 500 a supercar and the ZL1 is right there with that car on a road course. Also people keep calling the ZL1 a muscle car only. Muscle cars in general don't put down numbers on a road course like the ZL1 can. It has the nostalgic styling of a muscle car, but it has the underpinnings to run with most exotics.

If you look at the current Nurburgring lap times, one could conclude the ZL1 is definitely in supercar territory.

I don't even consider my car a supercar, and a stock ZL1 would be slaughtered by my car. Road course, drag strip, street; you name it, I'll take it. Supercars aren't modded sports car either, that would make a really hopped up civic a supercar if it could hang with a Porsche.

That is a bold statement. And I read your build. No doubt you have a capable car.

So I say find someone with a ZL1 and go to a road course and get us some video.

A stock ZL1 from the factory will run with the best in the world without one single modification. To me this solidifies it as a supercar. This brings in another question then...Is the CTS -V a supercar?

I don't consider it a supercar. The basic definition in wiki is, "a very expensive and fast car"

ZL1 is not very expensive, there are several cars going for over $1 million now. And performance wise, lets be honest, this car is not close to a Bugatti, McLaren, or LaFerrari. A supercar by today's standards should have no problem running 200 mph. ZL1 in stock form is not really close.

Supercars are pretty much built for nothing but sheer speed. ZL1 is not a flat out engineering effort for speed. The other cars I mentioned above are. ZL1 is a practical car that has been made pretty fast.

No. Is an E63 AMG a supercar? No.

Hell, if they can call an Audi R8 a supercar, I guess just about anything would qualify.

Being that it is going to snow tonight and the tracks are closed, I don't think I'll be able to. But with an extra 150hp, 200ftlbs of torque, I got one on the straights. External Resi coilovers will out handle MR as well.

Not to say I don't like the ZL1, it's a cool car, but I wouldn't put it in the same category as Ferraris and the like. Hell, if someone offered to trade you a 458 for your ZL1, would you turn him down? O would you say, nah they're equal?

To someone making per year half of what the ZL1 costs, it is a very fast and expensive car. Only one's wallet can determine that. And there are more expensive and slower cars than the ZL1. It's really difficult to determine what expensive is because it's all relative to someone's ability or inability to purchase something.

This is not quite true. I have spent a lot of time at Eagles Canyon Raceway and even my highly modded ZL1 can't really run with a full carbon fiber McLaren... they carry too much speed through the corners because they are so light and balanced. The ZL1 is a pretty good car but there is another tier out there.... you really need to drive them on a race track to see what I'm talking about. Go to exotics racing in Vegas and spend a few hundred driving the supercars and you will see.

Now that we've cleared that up.

I have to tell you that every time I ever really tried to look up the definition of super car what I came back with was that it is simply a made up term that high end auto makers use to market their cars. There really is no definition other than if someone wants to call their car a super car.

There was a post on here somewhere I swear, maybe in off topics, that talked about what happened once a thread went to quoting wikipedia.
