I saw this one earlier...
Let me tell you, GM wouldn't cancel this car for anything. The investment is too great to bail out now. Simple, honest, GM dollars and cents. Gas prices historically peak around Memorial Day. Some analysts strongly believe oil and gas will go back down, at least some. Demand for gasoline has already dropped as we drive less. Supply and demand may help ease the situation, only time will tell. But no matter what happens, you can bet we're gonna be sniffing some Camaro interior come March.

As far as this guy's article. I'll paper-train a puppy with it. More "shock-value' from the liberal press. Typically full of half-truths and wild speculation from someone with no credibility. If I ever met the guy, I would kick him in the nads, but I guarantee this dipsh!t was born "sans glans". As far as the distinguished supposed candidate from the Liberal Left: I really don't see normal middle of the road Americans that retain some common sense ever voting for this knee-jerk- smooth-talking inexperienced flash-in-the pan. Seriously, he said we need to use our A/C LESS this summer? Why, is he going to do the same? Is he going to "lead by example"? will he live like most Americans on a budget? No private aircraft, no limos? BS. This guy is an elitest left wing jackass. Oh, and if he is concerned that fat foods and smoking lead to higher healthcare costs, he should become a vegetarian and also STOP SMOKING. F**K this ahole. Sorry, but this POS is really bad news for America. Oh, and as far as the oil companies having to testify before the idiots in Congress: one Shell exec suggested that Congress stop plastering the oil industry with so many restrictions so they could actually BUILD more refineries and DRILL where we ACTUALLY HAVE FREAKIN OIL. This country is run by complete MORONS, and we are the poor bastards stuck with the bill. PHEW. I think I've said enough.

This car will roll out the door and will be delivered and I would throw a safe bet that the new V gen engines will be soon to follow well before the 2012 deadline.
Another point I would like to make is the fact that ethanol is not a great way to go right now, the mpg's aren't worth it yet for the price wait till we change from corn to sugar cane which yeilds more fuel withe less of an amount put in, which will lower the price. Also we the consumers need to take back power of the fuel market. It hurts me to see people race over to fill up with gas just b\c its a cent cheaper, the oil giants are laughing all the way to the bank from this. Some ways to help this is drive slower, I know its hard but the differance in driving 80 mph and 75 is not a big differance in time but in most cases is huge in mpg. Also dont buy gas from one company, most are saying exon-mobile, untill a price war starts. Even better then all this is to push for a set standard of gas to be used acrossed the States, most states have different standards for what additives to use which means a higher price in production of some 35 differnt types of just regular gas from one company. Over 230 years ago men fought so that normal people would have the right to change things and somewhere along the way we forgot we had that power. |

What a dog and pony show that was. Purely pablum for the voters. Who cares what their pay was? It's certainly not out of line with many other CEO's. Quote:
The oil cos. already pay tax and how will increasing the tax rate on them help them to find and produce new fields as well as build refineries? It's so ridiculous, anybody who really understands the industry know's this is all a big smoke screen so the voters think congress is doing something. Nobody seems to remember the oil industry crash in 1998/1999. Oil was dirt cheap, thousands were laid off and many oil cos. merged up to survive. Exploration budgets were slashed. The price is being paid now. They can't get the engineers and other people they need because so many left the industry. If congress really wants to help, they need to allow drilling in ANWR and off all the coasts. Enviromentalists will go nuts but you can't have it both ways. This is just as stupid as that bill to sue OPEC, like that's really going to help bring on new supplies. Go ahead and sue them, they'll just continue to sell to China, India, Japan, etc. and the price will go up even more in the USA. |

LOL 400hp V8 xD
But I have enough excess income that I could fill up 3x as much right now, that means that if gas is still under $12 I can afford to drive my dream car. A couple of years ago this argument may have been valid, however now GM has too much invested in this car to quit. Period. Gas could go up to $8 a gallon by the end of the year and GM will not cut the camaro just yet. Quote:
If it cost them very little in development costs, and it's not selling that is MORE reason to kill it. On the other hand the camaro... It IS a brand new platform designed from the ground up for the camaro. They have a new state-of-the-art assembly line for the camaro. So they just discontinue it right now and throw all that money out the door without giving it a shot? It is about price to risk. With all the money invested so far, and the camaro being %98 completed, it will only be costing a small fraction of the amount spent so far to produce some cars. with the challanger it will be costing a much larger percentage of money already spent, due to the fact that much was not spent on development (compared to camaro). |

[QUOTE=Captain Awesome;71206]Is there any movement going to get our elected officials to stop meddling with our vehicles? If we want to buy a large SAFE car without thousands of dollars of unnecessary equipment, then let us!
Exactly. The market will decide all. We need no government micromanagement. Case-in-point: With gas prices going up, more and more people have been riding scooters and little gas sippers. I don't think many people can argue with that. Car companies are not making muscle cars because they want us to use as much gas as possible, they are making them becuase the market demands them. In the last couple years, more and more people have been demanding better fuel economy, so the car companies built more fuel efficient (smaller) cars. They do not need to make all their cars like that. And funny thing, the government is WHY fuel economy isn't great. Safety regulations. Think original geo metro or original hatchback civic. Small, unsafe, AMAZING gas mileage. Both better than a prius. Here is the thing: Less government telling us what to do, let the car companies make an unsafe vehicle with great mileage for CHEAP or a safe vehicle with good mileage for expensive. [/rant] sorry for the rant/souble post :/ |

Has anyone else out there noticed that people are starting to drive in crazy and/or annoying ways because they are trying to get better fuel mileage?
One thing I have seen a lot of is people who treat "STOP" signs as if they said "Yield" or if they didn't exist at all. I see a lot more blowing through red lights after they turn red too. There's also the ones going 54 in a 55 zone (with 15-20 cars backed up behind them and nowhere to pass). Then of course, my all-time-favorite: slowing down to a crawl 1/2 mile before a red light thinking it will change before getting there. (Don't these people know that the lights are not on timers anymore and use sensors to detect when a car is waiting?) ARRRGH! |

Corvette Gas Mileage
Just last week I went for a drive in my 02 vette vert and got nearly 30 mpg @ 75 mph on the highway.
Chevy will deliver for us Either way I am buying the biggest, bad @$$ camaro they will make. Hopefully that will be a Hugger Orange w/Black Stripe vert w/ 500+ HP.
