71 voters and most of the people that made statements seem to be in favor of its a bolt on. how bout some reasoning behind the votes on the people claiming its an internal mod?

I'm kind of surprised it is this close. It is in no way an internal modification and in the grand scheme of things both of these are pretty minor mods, especially the snout. Compare a blower porting to an upper pulley change and tune. Way more power gains in the pulley. It is all the little things that add up and in my opinion these are a couple of little things.

I think the only reasons that have been put forward concerning this not being a "bolt on" are the metal removal in an OEM part and it cannot be returned back to stock without the purchase of an unaltered stock piece. Obviously, it isn't heads or cam in the true internal of the engine. The OEM blower shouldn't make a difference but it is does somewhat because it comes from the factory this way. I love hearing the input from the tuners. As I stated, my car is getting a ported snout if it is 100% deemed a bolt on.

The title of the class is vague at best. Taking a stock part and porting it is not bolting on a part, but it is also not an internal engine mod either. Hell, I could bolt in a crate 502 and a 4.0L blower and it could fit the title of the class. And yes that was an exaggeration to some extent.
I have no skin in the game, but I can see how it is open to interpretation.

Everytime someone that believes its not a bolt on expresses their opinion they get told why thy are wrong by someone else with an opinion that believes it is a bolt on. To me the engine is an LSA designed with a blower, someone commented earlier that you could remove the blower and it would run just fine. It would run yes but not fine. Blower engines are design with lower compression and other differences than naturally aspirated engines. Throw a blower on an LS3 and put 15 psi of boost in it and see how long it runs. Not a bolt on. IMHO

I find it funny how you jumped all over cam99 when he was getting close to the number 1 spot on the fast list because he did some weight reduction. Let me see if I can piece all these pieces to the puzzle.. So because someone has done something that you haven't to your ZL1 that means you need to go on the forum and try to discredit them And try to get the removed from the list that you currently placed number 1 in? That doesn't seem right. And honestly when you started this "argument" if you can call it one you specifically said "I must say that the "ported snout" with 102mm TB isn't exactly a bolt on as a 102mm TB won't bolt on to a stock snout" That doesn't sound like you were trying to figure out if it was a bolt-on or not so you could do it yourself... In my opinion you were just trying to discredit my 10.79 because it's approaching you PB of 10.78. So I'm just gonna go out and run the times. I just figured I would post my personal opinion. |

On the other side of the fence I do agree that if what redline has stated and true about just porting the snout enough for the blade to open the gain would be almost nothing for the porting. Either way run what you brung!!!! I have way more mods and power but we have piss poor DA and track prep. My car is a 6M and last year I struggled to run low 11's, I may never get a 10 second slip and I'm okay with that, I'm having a blast.

I think that "discredit" is a harsher word than is necessary. Also, I have never cried foul in any of my posts trying to remove or discredit someone from a particular list. I only asked if this should be considered a bolt on or not...that's it. The weight reduction stuff on Cam99 was also just a comment with no ill intents as nothing mentions anything about weight reduction in the categories. You can gut the car and take out all of the seats...go for it! I'm happy you ran well...all of these comments have been good information and at first I wasn't on board with the ported snout being a bolt on. For some reason, the more comments posted about this thread, the more people are leaning towards it "not being a bolt on" and I really can't understand that either. I hope you run as fast as possible in the future!

I'm a pretty literal person so to ask is porting a bolt on my answer is no. Porting is the processes of boring something out. So to port something on your car that came from the factory then you are not installing a bolt on. However if you buy a part that is not factory then it is a bolt on, ported or not.

Haha. What ever it was my phone wouldn't play it. Like I said great run. I only bumped this because you said the majority of people agreed with you. Untrue. It seemed to be split pretty even. Your tearing up the track no doubt about that.
