The Challenger is the throwback with power and a comfortable ride.
I know. Almost every car I see on the road these days has four wheels. Despicable.

I love everything about the new Mustang except the rear end proportions are hard to tell in pictures. I guess I will have to wait until I see it in person.

Fact.

The Camaro is a more well rounded performer than the new Mustang.

Opinion.

We don't yet know the power output or performance capabilities of the new Mustang.

None of that is fact! its all opinion. IMO i dont see anything that screams out Camaro about the interior, or the exterior besides they both have wheels, windows, door handles, steering wheels ect, and i dont think that the Camaro is the more well rounded appearing car.

I will say when the pictures of both are beside each other, it makes me relize even more how god awful the Camaro refresh was, and makes me like the new staang even more.

I'll take the Mustang's interior, although I really do like the 12 and up Camaro interiors...especially the two toned.

On the outside its definitely Camaro for me, as its the only one that looks like modern American muscle to me, while the Mustang still has "stang" in its DNA, it looks lost...like it lost some soul and sold it to the Asians and Europeans for a more "modern" look. Sorry but I'll pass and see what the 6th gen Camaro has to offer.

As for the rear...neither are that good.

I think they sold so many fusions and had people saying how great the front end looked they decide to use the same one for the mustang. problem is the fusion is good looking for a family sedan not a muscle car. If you showed me the picture of the new mustang but told me it was the new ford Probe with a turbo 4 with front wheel drive and had option for turbo 6 with all wheel drive, I would say that thing is amazing great job its good looking sports car. I'm sure the will sell a lot of them it probably fits today's market better with respectable fuel economy lighter weight. I just don't see a hardcore muscle car.

Being a member on Camaro 5 and being that I have owned two Chevelles, and three Camaros 1967, 2011, and 2014.

With that said this is what I think of the new Mustang....

two words.....

Floating Turd

Something that does not go away with just one flush... quite annoying...

It sure would be interesting to listen in on the conversations going on in the Camaro6G and Challenger/Cuda team camps at this time.

Are they far enough along in their new designs to be committed to a retro or modern styling? If they chose the former with simple lines and a retro American muscle look, while rejecting any turbo 4 options, are they rethinking that strategy after seeing the new Mustang's incredible worldwide reception? Any slippage in the expected release date might suggest that was the case.

My bet is that any new retro cars from GM and Chrysler might be huge mistakes. I sure hope that is not the case. Strong competition is good for all of us and I wouldn't want to see these icons disappear again.

I also would love to hear what they are saying!

You mention retro vs. modern. But honestly I don't consider the Camaro retro. Yes it has the styling characteristics that make it tie in to its heritage, but so does the new Mustang. So are they both retro? No, I don't think so. In fact, I consider the Camaro ultra modern but with hard chiseled lines versus the softer approach that the new Mustang took. I prefer the lines of the Camaro.

The Camaro just seems more retro to people for whatever reason...maybe the simple interior, but the exterior was something completely new and bold when it first appeared. Now people are just used to seeing it, but honestly it still looks more bold and interesting to me than the new Mustang does.

Anyways...to wrap this up, I hope GM takes a similar approach with the 6th gen a they did the 5th. Keep the heritage intake, but make it ultra modern, and make it American. Mustang looks sleek and modern, but nothing feels bold about it, and it to me it has taken on outside influence.

Autoblog: Mary Barra is set to become the first woman to lead a global automaker. The executive will succeed General Motors' Dan Akerson...
...Dan Ammann, 41, GM's CFO and executive vice president, has been named its president, with Chevrolet and Cadillac reporting directly to him, as well as GM Financial.

Oh Oh! That's not good.
