SS or ZL1?

Help me out guys, thinking about buying either a ZL1 or SS.

Love the way the ZL1 body looks. Is there a difference in the body of the ZL1 and the SS? For example does the ZL1 have wider fender flares etc etc.

The reason I ask is because I'm studying mechanics and I want a car I can mechanically work on and the ZL1 seems already finished to me. The SS can be modified and a ton of things done on it, the lower price is nice too. However, the other day I saw a ZL1 in the parking lot and it looked amazing !!! I was hoping that a SS had approximately the same body dimensions. I was unable to compare them side to side and hoped that you guys could help me out...

I'm going to step out and say if you seriously want one you can work on, a fine example of a 1st of 2nd gen would make sense to me, but hey. I got a 5th get because I didn't want to work on it.

However, I guess you don't care about warranty either way if you're going to wrench on the car? The ZL1 can be added to. It's like other Camaros, Chevy started it, we get to finish it.

So yeah, there's all sorts of things you can do to a ZL1 just like a V6 or an SS. Headers, CAI, pulleys, injectors, intercooler, list goes on. It's only limited by your imagination and your wallet.

X2

They are both great cars but from my experience they are night and day. The ZL is an absolute beast and you can mod it just as much but end up with a lot more. It's also almost half again to double the $$$$

Or get a 1LE unless you want to tinker with the suspension too.

you need to go to the gm official website and do some studying up on the zl1 it has about 30% of the car different such as more heavy duty suspension, rear end, transmission, under engine plates, aerodynamics, magneto rheological shocks, fuel pump, and of course the 1900 blower, all systems of course go through the computer...... Its a lot more than just a couple body parts.

You need a plan. Find out what it is that YOU want from the car, and choose accordingly.

If cost isn't an issue, the ZL1 would be a great platform in which to improve upon. JMO.

But if you want to wrench on a 5th gen, don't buy a new one. Buy an SS slightly used, and save a lot of $$.

Then get to work.

BINGO......you will need an extra $25K (approx.) for the ZL1. For me, my budget wouldn't accept that so I went with the 2SS.
