Also, you keep talking down on the old engines of Ford/Doge. You realize there was no camaro to compete with correct? If you have nothing to compete with you lose the race. At the time when it was just those two, the cars performed well and as desired. "Boat anchor v6"? Yes, Ford was first. Chevy came last. I'm not seeing how you can just talk down about their engine. GM had the opportunity to be hands on with the competition and produced the camaro accordingly.

Good point. Every change is not to one up the camaro. Does it happen to be that way sometimes? Yes. Changes like that can't happen overnight, they are long in the works.

You might want to take a look at this video, cause people will say a lot of things even though they have no idea. Don't take my word for it, but this guys do this for a living.

there you have it.

^^^^^^yup

The Camaro 1LE and ZL1 are in fact what brought over some Euro owners like myself, to FINALLY recognize and respect a USA made sports car at this price point, as being capable on the track(I'm not talking 1/4 mile), and I really want to emphasize price point.

The outgoing Mustang in all its guises, still holds to the old traditions that many of us mocked for years(like the rear solid watchamacallit beam axle), but I'm sure they are waking up now , as we will see in the next couple of years.

They didn't lie. They also did not take the cars to the drag strip. So maybe they used a stopwatch. We are talking about Motortrend here. No one has come close to 12.7 in a stock 1LE. 2 1LE C5 members as far as I know squeaked into the 12s. 12.588 is the stock SS best time. So if you want to race a 5.0 stock for stock do it in an SS, they are faster. Several reasons for this. But the 1LE is loads of fun to drive with its great handling and it shines on a road tack.

Other magazines?

Motortrend? Not a reliable source.

Straight line speed: GT/TP > 1LE
Road Course Prowess: 1LE > GT/TP

A fanboy or girl is someone who thinks the car/motorcycle/team/brand of whatever they like can do no wrong despite evidence to the contrary.

Braking 1LE > GT/TP

Oh and also Bad A** Looking: 1LE > GT/TP (subjective but true)

We're talking drag strip though. If we're talking the street, then yeah all cars can get to the speed limit. Ties all around.
