Person X - "I know this guy.. He contacted me since the dealer is giving him a used 2012 zl1 and I just happen to have all the info on it lol it was the first zl1 sold in Dover and I went with the guy when he bought it. The dealer told him that the car was bought in 2013 even tho I know for a fact that the car was bought on may 18 2012 so i told him that the dealer needs to get him a new one. Poor dude traded in his 2011 ss and sold his 69 camaro for this car" This person I know, this person I trust. So no, there isn't a conflicting report as far as I'm concerned. Now, I don't agree and the "new one" part but this dealer is as shady as they come.

Stick with CarFax - industry standard, and few surprises. They've been at it quite a while, and know how to do it, and do it well. |

So PQ, still sound like a conspiracy set in motion by the OP? I'm sure we don't have all the story but more things stated by the OP have been verified (unless they are in on the conspiracy too) than have been by the people here defending this dealer.... |

This. ![]() I feel bad for both sides, really... They both lose. I'm sure the Hoopers would LOVE to have their car, and 1st State would love to not have had their innocent employees on the phones terrorized. C'est la vie. My guess, is GM will have 1st State pop in a couple more grand over the $4K, Chevrolet, to save face, will pop in the rest, and provide a new ZL1 spec'd out as they had. 1st State will get the insurance payout, and somehow/someway get that to Chevrolet as well, probably just as a 'balance due' on the provided ZL1. My guess. I think this, because the noise floor has risen quite high, and GM/Chevrolet want this to go away VERY quickly... This is as fast as it gets (save waiting if it's an ordered ZL1) and the way to get them the happiest they possibly can be. |

I'm with Shnomac... no real point of leaving the thread open until the OP is back or this is resolved. |

Anyone notice it has a clean report??? Bet Carfax shows same. Anyone bet the dealer had no idea anything had ever been touched on this car if the work was quality??

We're more in the corner of "let's wait and see," rather than rush to judgement. We're STILL dealing with he said she said, and now even he said that he said that he did. OP was wronged, no doubt. Dealer WAS ALSO wronged, though, let's not forget that... Could the dealer have handled it better? I think so. This should have had either a resolution, or a planned resolution, within 24 hours. The customer lost his baby, and it should have been addressed IMMEDIATELY. Anything less, and the customer will think they're being wronged. We are, after all, only human. |

In continuing to follow this it's difficult not to comment again.
First, I'm wondering how on earth the thief could avoid prosecution since he "had access to the keys." I'm sorry, but if I walk into a convenience store can I not be prosecuted for shoplifting for stealing a candy bar sitting there on the shelf, since I had "access" to it? Second, the dealer has no responsibility to control their employees 24/7, and there is no possible way to control even a marginal fraction of their behavior on OR off the clock, which is why you have some sort of safegaurd (lock box, safe, etc) in place for closed hours. The dealer is at fault; there's no getting around that. Their public statement trying to lay it on the shoulders of the thief while they play the victim sends quite a bad message, though at this point I'm beating a dead horse. I'm willing to consider the sentiment that they are following some terrible advice from their attorney and/or insurance company, but in the end it's the president/owner/GM who's responsible for what they put out. Third, I am not at all convinced that all the Hoopers are after is a new car. I think that if it were ME, I'd be sickeningly and hopelessly mortified, as well as superfluously angry. Next, I'd have no idea what I'd want. I'd want my car back, but that ain't happening. Fourth, I've developed a level of trust in the idea that the powers that be, i.e. the attorneys, General Motors, and insurance companies are at some level handling this, and that there will be a favorable outcome for the Hoopers. As for the dealership, I really don't care. A good portion of them have no business being in business to begin with, though that view may be tainted by my area (military). This one, however, just doesn't seem to have a grasp of how to run a business, from the lack of foresight resulting in a theft from their lot (come on, who wouldn't consider this?) to their statements on Jalopnik, and finally the joke of a public announcement on their web site. Finally, I've got the strange suspicion that GT500 and maybe one or two other low-post-count new members just might be plants by the dealership or worse, actual employees or shareholders in the dealership. I HOPE I'm wrong. |

I'm a performance car enthusiast who has owned both Ford and Chevrolet products as well as others and may just pull the trigger on a C7 once my GT500 is paid for and if I do, I'll purchase that car from First State Chevrolet! They have treated my family well for over 25 years and I feel as badly for them as I do the Hoopers.. |

What people such as PQ are missing is this;
If they called Mr. Hooper the monday after this happened and said "We are very sorry, we had a rogue employee break into the dealership and totalled your vehicle. While this is a very trying time for us here at the dealership, as well as you, we would like to offer our heartfelt apologies and assure you we will make this right again" Then offered the car with 3k more miles + $4,000 cash, i'd be able to see reason for John to take it. HOWEVER, they offered this after what? Two weeks? Three? Of beating around the bush and trying to get out of it in every possible way. |

I don't own a Gen5 Camaro ('73 for me), but several of my family members do. I came here near the beginning, hoping to voice my support for the OP, but quickly found anything I would've said had been and will be repeated 100 times over (other than if my dealer called me a prick or compared me to the criminal who stole my car, they'd no longer get my respect or the benefit of any doubt...and that's all I have to say about that).
But, I did want to comment on the vendors here who are offering to ease the pain a little. It speaks volumes of your service, and I know I can feel confident in your business. Needless to say, a LED Interior upgrade, a cold-air intake, and a nice sway bar will fit nicely for upcoming birthdays, and I'd like you to know you've caught the attention and gained a customer who might have not known about your business, had it not been for your class act in this matter! Thank you, Diode Dynamics, CAI, and PFADT! Quote:
