I agree.. Let's hope this is the case... However it is doubtful that the V6 Camaro will have more torque than the 2008 Mustang GT.

Only time will tell.

That is a completely false statement. The GT500 is SAE certified at 500 bhp. Maybe after drive train losses it makes 440 rear wheel horsepower, but the GT500 makes its advertised 500 bhp.

I think it will be close, but the 05-08 GT will have still have an edge IMHO.

The V6 Camaro won't have the 320 ft-lbs of torque and possibly the gearing that a 05-08 Mustang GT has, and the GT still comes in under 3500lbs.

But anyway the V6 Camaro will be too close to the current Mustang GT for comfort.

Just want to point out that it's not inconceivable that the Camarp has a 6-speed mated to it's V6...that would even the odds considerably if it were to happen.

Also, wanted to add to the GT500 comments, 420 rwhp is a little low but not much...Rock is correct, the GT500 is rated at the flywheel so on the dyno you will will see all that drivetrain loss.

I was referring mostly to rear end gear ratios. The mustang GTs come with 3.55 or 3.31 rear ends.

I was expecting the standard V6 camaro to have a 3.27 rear end ratio at most. But that is a SWAG of course.

Also, the 6 speed that would be going is for fuel economy rather than performance. So the V6 probably won't beat a mustang GT, but it won't be embarrassed either. It would be very close on a road course.

On the strip, I think a GT will be able to beat it just barely (assuming it's a shoehorned engine from the CTS). But on a road course, I think the wieght balance and IRS of the Camaro will slaughter the Mustang.

if they are as close in performance (v-6 camaro and V-8 mustang) I could def see crappy driver in a mustang losing to an avg driver in a camaro. easy

lets start a new argument

this is from the "Camaro V8 romur thread:

The SS is still going to be 430hp from a LS3 (3900lbs). It's gone 12.7@113 in testing. "

now so far the new mustang is getting 400 horses and weights 3800 pounds with a with a good ratio manual transmission, this is a good threat to the maro and dodge, and the maro weights more than the stang but has 30 more horse power, question would it be enough

Yea but still how cheap is that our coupe vs there v8 gt . The powered mustang should be way ahead of our coupe. and in drivetrian loses it shopuld loose about 25% hp if it did it would be at 468-479 hp not 440. I don't hear much competition going on with the malibu ss and the mustang gt...why? they are both at 300hp and both have a v8 the prices is only $1,500 off (about).

Let's hope not; if the base price of the Mustang increases, GM can get away with charging a little more for the Camaro.
