Now that you mention it, maybe the sealant tape was there to begin with. I don't remember - it was last year. The pic looks good, though. Plus once it is in, you can tell if it is leaking by getting under there after a few days and looking for coolant drips right at the base of the bolt. FYI: If there ARE coolant drips there already BEFORE you take the existing fitting off, DON'T DO IT. There was a problem for a while on the assembly line where someone cross-threaded a bunch of these, and they may need to be tapped out. There's a thread on this with my name on it if you are interested, search for it. In a worst case scenario it is possible that something that was cross-threaded might necessitate a new block (!!) and apparently that has happened before, according to other posts on this site. So check first for red drips before you touch anything. If there are red drips, you can find the recall notice online or I can help you.

In general I am still confused as to why people want to delete it, but then again I went the other way and put a big ass oil cooler on mine because I am supercharged and do track my car.

If you disagree or think I am off-base on this, please let me know!!! I certainly don't want to do something that could possibly cause irrepairable damage to my engine!!! My warranty is already toast.....so even if I have a possibly cross-threaded coolant fitting in the block....there's not much that the dealership is going to do to help me out without charging me a fortune!!! |

... Because my stock one cracked and I had to pay $225 for a tow.
If you do an aftermarket cooler and have it mounted so it can cool off, then it would good for road racing. But for drag racing, we only make a 9-12 second pass so a cooler relying on air to cool it off won't do anything.

I'm told the 08-13 LS3 C6's don't have oil coolers but have not checked one in person.

But are those dry sump, or is that only on the LS7's and LS9's???? I would guess (don't know) that the LS9's, being S/C, would probably have an external cooler of some kind.

I'd like to understand what the basic C6 has for oil cooling.
