Simply put the new c7 vettes have killed the resale value of the zl1 for now at least. Who wants to buy a $58k msrp camaro with a gas guzzler tax added on when the newest vette starts $54k msrp gettin 30mpg with no gas guzzler tax? If the new vette came out in 12 the zl1 wouldve flopped in my opinion.

The C7 has a lot to do with it, and that may be our saving grace in the long term. If the 2014 sales are miserable, I imagine GM will kill it, making it a three-year car. Which would be good for resale.
But getting mad at dealers for poor trade-in value? And thinking that "banding together" was somehow going to squeeze more money out of them? I fail to see the logic in any of it. Perhaps I'm just dense. |

By offering discounts (my local dealer is offer $3500 off a 2014 ZL1) and making them easily available, this is what determines the trade in value of you car. Not how long YOU or (we) hold out and "band together". This is why you NEVER pay more than MSRP and wait a year or two after a new model debuts to get the best price possible. After they hype is gone, dealers start dropping mark ups and start giving discounts. This is what caused your car to drop, not sheep following each other.

There was a guy on TV last night who feels the same way. He doesn't get it either.

No problem with making a profit, infact I willing paid mrsp on my Zl1, but there is a huge difference between making a profit and gouging the customers. Some people just cant get what I am talking about either.

If someone enters into a contract willingly and knowingly, they aren't being gouged.

Did you accept their offer? Were you forced into a decision against your will? Gun to your head? No? Then don't take their offer so personally. They are in business to maximize profits with minimal risk. The best way to handle this if you are not happy is to go elsewhere (likely will get a similar offer +/- 1K) or sell it privately. Whenever you trade in a car to a dealership (especially within the first two years of ownership) you will be lowballed. If you change your mind soon after purchasing a vehicle or have thoughts of selling it, you might leasing for 2-3 years.....may be a better option. There will be no "banding together".....for a "used car resale value revolt vs the evil dealerships!" |

Anytime a dealer agrees to a sale, they made a good deal. Whether you did or not is up to you.
