would the ram air system involve remounting the upper rad mounts, so there is a space to suck from? seems logical to me. and blowers tend to like least piping possible to draw from. so for me, i will need a cai, that is short, but freshest air possible, with allowance for water trapping. scooping up from the ground -- removing the washer res., may not be the answer. i await various manufacturer claims...

just so you know the intake if its not from gm will be a cause or a problem if you mess your car up and take it. the cars chip will show numbers of the problem. now i am told this from a buddy who works at the dealer and asked the same question with my scion. now unless gm is more open to people modding then do it. i said screw warranty been lucky and havent needed it on my scion for anything major only the hatch pistons no motor.

the only problem with the intake set ups on this car. there is no where for the air to come into the intake. the whole front is closed. now i know there is a little cover on the front left wheel well on the plastic you can remove but how much air is going to get up in there.

Not being satisfied with the CAI's on the market, price vs. performance, I made my own with plumbing from Spectre and a K&N filter. It is truly cold air with a ram air effect. It draws air from the lower grill opening.

The air goes straight, slams into the wall and creates turbulence. Gradual radius's turn the air with minimal turbulence. Relocating the MAF is also very important so that it gets a correct signal. Air is not "pumped" into an engine. (on a normally aspirated engine) It is sucked in. It will only pull what it needs. i.e. if an engines demand is 350cfm and the filter will flow 400, you gain nothing from the higher flow rate of the filter. You probably lose filtration do to the changes made to the filter to get it to flow that amount. Hold your filter up to a light. If you can see points of light then dirt will pass thru those holes. You want the best balance of flow vs filtration you can get. Ram Air on street cars is an urban legend. Front engined race cars have the front of the air cleaner sealed and pull air from the base of the windshield were it is less turbulent. This is a change made over the years of open air cleaners "after" they started using rolling floor wind tunnels. Trying to slam air directly into the throttle body blades only creates turbulence. There is a lot more to air flow management than you'd think. Regarding dyno testing. I do know that several manufacturers (K&N, Airaid, etc not shops) test with the hood closed because their air boxes seal to the underside of the hood. You will never get 100% accurate info on the INTERNET. People are trying to sell you something or justify the money they already spent. I know of people posting here under multiple names, their day job and their "internet office" side job.Get as much information from different sources as you can and through out the extremes on both end of the claims. Comparing cold air intake systems numbers is impossible unless you do it on the same car on the same dyno on the same day. I did this a back in 2005 on the CTS when some members were kind enough to send me various kits plus the one I had, and a local shop donated the dyno time. If you are concerned about spending the money and not getting the results deal with a manufacturer that has a money back guarantee. |

AG383,
My only concern with your setup would be where the MAF is located. Locating a MAF on a curved section of intake might cause some problems. There does not appear to be a straight section of tubing where the airflow will be less turbulent in order to allow the MAF to make a good measurement. Has this vehicle been tuned yet? |

That is exactly why i started the other thread about testing ALL aftermarket Cold Air Induction Systems against one another. We now have GM High Tech on board so please post up in that thread which CAI systems you would like to see go head to head with one another.
