What's with all the hate on automatics

I really don't understand why everyone hates on automatics, I mean I get that manuals are great for racing and automatics aren't, but personally I think that automatics are better for daily drivers. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I think its a personal choice. I test drove both and decided to go with the automatic.
The way I look at it is I paid for the car so I bought what I wanted. I use my car on weekends when its nice out and thats it. I also mainly use the car in town so I didnt want to be shifting all the time.

I find that the people who hate are the ones that dont own one.

Where are you getting this from? I've owned many different automatic sports cars over the past 20 years and I've never had anyone hate on it. People have asked me if it were a stick or auto just because that is one of the first things people ask about muscle cars. But nobody has ever hated on me when I've said it was an auto. I've had people get excited when I say I have a stick tho, but thats a normal response. Maybe you're being a little defensive.

It's all about the fun factor, I used to have and automatic mustang and I hated it too not having a manual. Not near as fun just pressing the gas and gaining speed as shifting the gears, plus I hated when it would shift when I got er sideways and had it in drive. But traffic and eating on the road sucks! (Lots of people here don't eat in their cars though)

I disagree. Automatics are better for racing because they take human error out of it. Manuals are better for daily driving IMO.

As a person that's owned both, there is something to be said about owning a manual. You have to be one with your car. To really drive it effectively, you have to know your clutch's sweet spot. You have to know what speed you're at to effectively choose a gear to downshift in. It hurts you to miss a shift or slip your foot off the clutch and smack the rear a little too hard. You know the embarrassment of stalling out in the middle of traffic and hoping no one around you notices you're starting your car at an uphill traffic light. Maybe you even forgot you left it in gear when parked and you starting the car and letting off the clutch ignorantly jerks it violently forward 6 inches. Hopefully you weren't parallel parked!

There's a bond an owner has with a manual, and in order to keep up with automatics, you need to have a certain level of skill and intuition. A total stranger can drive an automatic just as well as you can. They can race it just as well as you can. And you don't need to have any relationship with your car to drive it.

Automatics, simply put, are faceless automobiles. They don't have an identity. A manual transmission has a personality, and trust me when I say this, the TR6060 is kind of a lovable dick. That's special.

Yea autos are easier to track. I love my manual trans, but I hate it when I go to the track. I'd rather take my auto Mustang. Its just too difficult and annoying in a manual. But on the road, the manual is loads more fun...unless you have to quickly do a roll-on to prevent someone from sneaking up and blasting in front of you...an auto you can just hit the gas...a manual take that much more time and if you're tired or distracted you're gonna get taken out.

I'd think that'd be a given, if you hate it then why would you buy one?

Personally I prefer manual to automatic in anything, but I don't hate on the autos, just my preference. Unless for some reason I physically can't drive a manual one day, I don't think I'll ever buy an automatic vehicle. And I drive a minimum of 100 miles a day. I'm so used to my manuals that if I drive a friend/family members auto vehicle I actually have to think about it or I'll instinctively try to hit the non existent clutch pedal and move the shifter...

I like both but I went Auto because the traffic in this stupid city has gotten downright disgusting.
