See if you hear the sound without your fan/air conditioning on at all. The air coming through the dash vents makes a clicking sound on mine.

The car can sit for two days- I'll open the door, and it'll be clicking. It is nothing mechanical, nor is it the head shields, suspension, fan, etc. It's coming from behind the gauge cluster.

My Lexus did that, had something to do with the direct injection. Wasn't a problem

Open the nhood, lift the engine cover and expose the intake. In the center of it is a valve with a vacuum line feed to it. Shutdown the car and see if it is coming from that valve. Mine did yesterday very pronounced, but usually do not hear it in the car. This is a normal deal for this valve and it can be somewhat loud.
