Burning smell
2011 camaro ss with 8k miles. Bought in December. Stored over winter. --when I start it up after sitting overnight or for a day or 2 it smells like something is burning? What could this be?
I know the dealer said they put a synthetic blend oil in it which I will be changing this weekend but that wouldn't be the cause would it? Any help would be great, thanks. |

what does it smell like is burning? Oil, plastic, coolant? They all have pretty distinct smells, that would help track down where its coming from.

They probably spilled a little big of oil during the change. If so, it will smell until it burns off.Because the dealer said they put synthetic BLEND in (which is a mixture of synthetic and dino oil), he probably wants something that's "full" synthetic. |

Smells like oil I would say but I didn't smell it when I got it in December it just started recently
And yes I'm changing the oil to synthetic because the dealer didn't use full synthetic |

Look over the engine compartment, and especially under the plastic covers. I have seen lots of times where mice drag things up onto the engine while it is stored over the winter. A nest of plastic on the exhaust is no bueno.

The dealer should know to use only DEXOS oil in the Camaro.

^ True but DEXOS is a synthetic blend not full Syn... Same thing happened to me. I just went full Syn this time. They put DEXOS in last time though it is only a Semi-Syn. Still meets the Warranty for the Camaro though. I was surprised the car didn't require Full Syn for warranty...

Dexos is just a standard that oils must meet to carry the "dexos" license of approval. There's a long list of oils that are dexos licensed, including both full synthetic and synthetic blend (not sure if any conventional oils have made the list). The brand(s) and type(s) of oil varies with different service departments (especially when they're independent from dealerships).
