There are a lot of varying opinions on this. Search camaro5 for breaking in an SS as it will be the same as the 1le.

Break in period:

for the first 1500 miles:

No full throttle starts
Keep it under 4000 RPM's
Keep it under 80mph
Do not ride at the same speed for long periods of time

I broke mine it total opposite. Right out of the dealer I had it WOT and never looked back. My SS runs like a beast.

Some say the book way is the best, some people say the hard way is the best. I'm one that says the hard way it the best.

Agree x2. Break it in like your gonna be driving it. Just be easy while clutch engage and disengage, change all fluids at 1k miles...engine oil, trans and diff....

We took it easy'ish for the first 500-600 miles or so then it was game on! Mods were installed, dyno & tune and warranty out the window.

Break in period ?

I did what @31B wrote. Painfully long time but the car has since loosened up nicely and is a monster. Dyno'd at 410 with a basic K&N CAI.

Apparently these engines are pre run before we get them so the rings and valves have been seated. But as far is I know (or don't know) the rear end still needs to break in.

Many folks here just run their cars hard and swear by it.

Chevy has a recommended break in period. You need to decide what you believe in.

My plan is to follow similar to this along with an oil change the moment the car gets home. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39955

I drove it like the book said but with a few cheating moments.

I would pedal the car to keep the speed changing. low cruising gear in traffic, floor it in that gear to gain a few mph then let the rpm go down then repeat. I changed my oil at 3,000 miles for the 1st oil change. (Mobil 1 synthetic) and even before the 1st oil change I pulled fuses 5 and 20 for the fuel reset

Dyno'd at FSP @ 416whp and 398wtq only mod is a Halltech CAI.

Is that a Dynojet? That's seems like a high number for just an intake. How many miles on it? I'm going in May 20 with a CAI intake installed. I'll have over 1000 miles by then. I'd be thrilled with a baseline that high. I'm hoping for 425-430 after TB+ARH+tune.

As far as break-in goes, I live in the city. I have a four mile commute to work, so the oil doesn't even get fully warmed. There is no where you can responsibly exercise this car. I don't have much choice but to follow the accel/decel/accel/decel method. 4000 RPM gives you lots of room to play, so there's not a lot of need for me to run it up higher although I have a few times. It'll be on the dyno soon enough and I will consider it "broken in" after that.

FSP has a mustang dyno. I had a little shy of 8000 miles when it was dyno'd.

The print out of the sheet is in the 1LE baseline dyno thread. Post #252
