I have owned an '11 LS3 SS obviously stock and then worked the suspension. The 1LE is in between both in harshness with the the noise being less in the 1LE. The 1LE has a suspension firmer than the SS. And the tires will wear out fast. But the '14 SS is a better handling car than my stock '11. Is the 1LE Better handling than my modded SS? I would have to say both have strengths. It's a tie.

Unless handling is a big priority with you or you want to track, you should stay with the SS. If you just like the wheels, you can get aftermarket wheels at a reasonable price that look very close.

I think since you are asking this question, stick with the SS and save some money for more options or mods. The 1LE is not for everyone.

Also you can buy the 1LE suspension cheaper than $3,500 and add it later if you change your mind which is the bulk of the 1LE. You also get the ZL1 fuel pump. Also know the standard SS is as fast or faster than a 1LE in the 1/4.

Keep in mind you are asking this in the 1LE forum.

The tire issue can be slightly fixed with a different set of tires.

If you want to autox or race in any sort of way then get a 1le.
Road race = 1LE
Drag = Non 1LE

If you prefer drag racing you will be putting yourself at a DISadvantage with the 1LE.

Even though the 1LE costs $3500 more...it has more than just suspension to factor into the cost...

-Larger Front and Rear Stabilizer Bars
-Higher-capacity rear-axle half shafts
-Strut tower brace
-ZL1-based 20 x 10-inch front and 20 x 11-inch aluminum wheels
-285/35ZR20 Goodyear Eagle Supercar G:2 tires front and rear
-ZL1 wheel bearings, toe links and rear shock mounts
-ZL1 high-capacity fuel pump
-ZL1 flat bottom steering wheel
-ZL1 short throw shifter
-Front Splitter

I think for the $3500 that is a steal...

its not the best car stock for the 1/4.. but running high 12's in the 1/4 stock to me is good enough... we are learning how to make the 1le perform good in the 1/4 too.. well i am... if i can run a 12.8 i would be very happy.. stock...

I was well aware of the compromises when I ordered my 1LE as a DD(track car in a yr or 2), and never second guessed my decision. As said before, if you are worried or asking maybe an SS is best for you.

Made an adjustment, all SS's have aluminum wheels, 1LE/ZL1 have forged wheels.

I daily drive mine during the warm months and have no problems with it. Compared to my 92 GTi VR6 Swapped Track car the 1LE is pure luxury.

I would have never bought a Camaro if they did not offer the 1LE. Cheap M3.

LOL, coming out of six years in a VERY stiff car, the 3100 lb Mazdaspeed3. My 2014 2SS/RS Vert which supposedly has the same suspension setup as the coupe rides plenty stiff enough for me. 1LE is not offered in a convertible for a good reason--the lessened structural rigidity can't handle it. I won't be tracking this car or running autocross so I'm fine with the OE suspension. I'm in the process of adding 50 rwhp so maybe my mind will change.

That is a somewhat false statement. If you are just looking at pure suspension its close, but that womt give you all the handling the 1le has.

Here is what you get for 3,500
  • close ratio manual transmission that has higher final drive (3.91 vs. 3.45)
  • air-to-liquid cooling system lifted from the ZL1 (trans and oil coolers)
  • 20-inch wheels covered in Goodyear Eagle Supercar G:2 tires, 285 on all 4 corners
  • Improved wheel bearings (zl1)
  • Improved toe links
  • upgraded sub-frame bushes
  • Better rear shock mounts
  • rear monotube shocks
  • thicker antiroll bars(27mm front, 28mm rear)
  • strut-tower bar
  • beefed up the rear-axle half-shafts
  • ZL1's high-capacity fuel pump and additional fuel pickups were also added to prevent fuel starvation in hard-cornering situations.
  • matte-black hood
  • functional front splitter
  • rear spoiler
  • Oil catch can
  • red Brembo brake calipers
  • ZL1's flat-bottom, microfiber-covered steering wheel
  • short shifter topped with a microfiber shift knob.

Here is the parts list with prices:
