When these coolers fails, what are the different ways they can fail? Is it that they start leaking? Where is it they are leaking from?

Thank you
Dimitri

Mine cracked and leaked from that crack, near where it was bolted to the block.

Bump, was under my car and noticed some oil on the NEW oil cooler WTF.

Can I get that big coolant plug directly from GM, it would be nice to buy everything in one order.

I bought all the parts from a local dealer contact who gives LS guys a good discount. All the parts were under $40 with tax. I'll post a pic later.

I'm told the G8 does not even come with any sort of oil cooler? Nothing at all?

Anyone know how hard to bust loose that fitting in the block the big one? What size is it?

Thanks.

2.) What the heck do you use to tighten this thing down....that would be a HUGE Allen Wrench!!! What about the torque???

3.) Just FYI....I bought the oil cooler block-off plate pictured below off of eBay.

4.) Just FYI....The one piece upper radiator hose, GM P/N 19259243 has been superseded (replaced by) GM P/N 22962571.
Going to bring this back from the dead and offer a little help and ask a question.

I used a 17mm to take out the brass plug that Thompson sent with the shortblock. There was nothing on the threads other than the sealant that came on the threads from GM.

Im putting all the factory cooler stuff back on, but need to get the connector fitting out of the old block. Other than using a cresent wrench, does anyone know what the wrench or socket size of the factory fitting actually is?

ETA: Im going to try and get a wrench on the way home from work and Im not sitting in front of the block to throw a mic on it.

Anyone have any updates to share? I'm afraid I'll need to either plug or replace in the near future.

Thanks to all for the input!

Make sure everything else is good.

My car hasn't had one for a long long time. Even with it being 115F out it doesn't get over 230F, and takes forever to get there.

If you are really hitting 260 then I would probably throw one back on, assuming coolant temps are normal.

It hasn't been super hot here. I've had my cooler off since Xmas. I could take a pic of my gauges next time it's real hot out.

And what's with that hot liquid in the radiator? I'm thinking of a radiator delete and then just turn the fans onto the engine and save that water step in between.

G8 and your 2010 Grand Sport don't come with an oil cooler mr. smarty pants.

I drag race a lot and broke one at the track. The 2nd one leaked within a weak.

Mine leaked from day one. Gm tried to fix it twice. I finally just excepted it was going to leak.

Base vettes don't have them either. Tons of GMs don't have oil coolers. My oil temps are A LOT better with out it. In fact, they are just about perfect with no cooler in 100+ temps, and on cold days still too cool.
