Trade-In?
Doc fees?
Straight buy or finance and interest rate if I may ask?

Thank you.

I got my ZL1 last year OTD in August saving nearly 6K in the process. Of course, I had many to choose from and it came down to an IOM or CRT.

You're overthinking this WAY too much IMO (yes, I have an opinion). You seem to be shopping for payments and terms rather than the car itself. The pittance difference of paying a few hundred more for the "right" car for you should take precedence. Don't settle when buying the ZL1 of your dreams. Next year, you're not going to miss that $$ difference, unless you're planning a trade that you'll be upside down for.

This is what I did and my advice is to do the same -- search for the 2013 of your wanting. Or hopefully several finalists. Dig the details and make the offers. If you're trading, then you're at a major disadvantage, so buy outright without trade if possible. You'll have more negotiating room. After getting all the facts in writing, THEN make your decision. I went out and secured my own financing at a very low rate, and then when I got there, I let the dealer have a chance to beat my confirmed rate. Amazingly, they did. By doing it that way, it boxes them into a corner in that at least you know what max payment would be for you and you know you have the money available to make the purchase regardless.

Recall there is usually a reason the car is still sitting. Seek the car YOU want and don't settle just because you could save an extra $100. EVER.
At the right price and the right rate you can live with a few compromises. Notice I say a few. Too many and it isn't worth it but everyone is different. This would be a straight buy, no trade. I am looking in a certain range of monthly payment as well. That is another critical factor and NO I don't want to string a loan more than 6 years. 5 years is what I've done on my other car purchases. Many of the things you mentioned I do when I car shop, great minds think alike. Several of these vehicles are "sitting" probably due to their location (Northern States) or dealers unwilling to budge off a certain price. I would like to dangle the carrot so to speak to see if they are tired of waiting and want to cut their losses. I will see what happens.

I care about money but I love cars. Its a balancing act. If I didn't care about cars I'd never buy a new car anyway, its a terrible depreciating asset.

If anyone else has any hard numbers or stories from dealers, keep them coming, thank you.

Financing through the dealer will help negotiations because they make money on it. But if you negotiate too low they won't give you the best deal/apr. Maybe they will, but not in my most recent experience.

Financing pros recommend to spend 20% of your annual net income on a car. To buy a $50,000 car you would need to make $250,000 AFTER taxes. I highly doubt the OP is in those lines with this post. Not trying to embarrass or knock but I'm just trying to put it into perspective. Of course sports car owners are not the average investor for transportation so 99% of people on here probably don't follow the 20% rule
I think your intention was nice, but maybe your facts are just a bit off. I think it is payments, not purchase price.

How much should you spend on a new car? Not more than 20 percent of monthly income, say experts. And that should include payments on all the cars you own, whether you have one vehicle or six. And we're talking about your take-home pay, not your gross income.

So, lets say your payments on the ZL1 are $650 that would mean you need NET income of $3250 to meet the expert's 20% rule. That seems actually a bit high of a payment for making only $3250 but hey...I'm not the "Expert".

I hope that makes everyone feel a bit better

You're definitely correct. The 20% number is based on a 5 year loan. The idea is that you pay for 20% of the car each year.

The original comment, 20% of annual net income, would mean that middle-class America making about $65,000 a year would not be able to afford a brand new Kia.

Divide your car value by 5, and that's what you should need to afford annually (even if you're taking a longer term loan).

This car has been at this dealership forever. I'm pretty sure nobody in LA wants a Gas Guzzler...

That said, maybe you can strike up a deal if you're looking for a Silver Automatic!

If you keep waiting, soon there will be no new 13's left as they are starting to thin out. My personal take on this is you are in the sweet spot for a deal. GM made way to many 13's and now its simple supply and demand. I don't know how many 14's are being produced but I doubt its as much and 15 will be a thin year. If you look back to the 12's there was no discount as no supply.

Just as an example when I bought my 14GT500 I got it at invoice. Now you can't get one for much under MSRP because of the supply. When I bought my 13ZL1 I got a bit of a discount but not much and I sold it for what I paid( I could not do that now).

I think the 13's are a great deal and if you can find one you like it's not worth losing it over a thousand or two, because a 14 will cost you lots more and you may regret holding out.

Also if you get one make sure it's what you want or you won't be happy (color options etc. ) Get one while there is still some choice or you may loose out altogether.

I find it odd that there are still left over '13 ZL1's around me , yet no dealer has any '14 ZL1's ! Maybe they felt burned and didn't order any '14 ZL1's .
