Hill assist work great for low speed things like pulling into the garage on a sloped driveway. It is in traffic where it acts strange, you need to take off slow. If you try to take off quickly you either smoke the tires when it releases, or stall if your not in the throttle enough. I just wait a second to feel the release. It would be better if it was something you could turn on manually.

I have a 2014 ls and it seems to work fine, even kind of like it. My car is only two weeks old and I have not quite found the feel for where the back end is with regard to how close people are to me on a hill. No stall issues, and disengages pretty quick. Would like to have manual control of it.

I don't care for it at all. Only thing it has done for me is let me stall the car out because I'm not expecting the brakes to be locked up. I'll probably change the yaw sensor one day to get rid of it.

Better yet, it should have been selectable in the DIC or MyLink menu.

I love the hill start assist. I think that a lot of people who hate it and are complaining about it not letting go are pressing their brakes too hard. The HSA only holds the brakes as hard as you do.

If you only press hard enough to keep your car still and not stand on the brakes for no reason it lets go as soon as you start forward motion.

That being said I also hated it at first because I've driven manual transmissions my whole life. I've never owned a car with an automatic. The HSA really threw off my equilibrium (like others have said, I was used to rolling back a bit at first) and I stalled the car almost every night going up my hill when I got caught at the red light.

But once I got used to it, and figured out not to overdo it on brake pedal pressure I love it. I just take off as if I were on flat ground and it works great.

I hate it. I've never needed it before, I don't need it now. There's one particular hill that I drive frequently. I have to wait until it disengages to actualy move. Otherwise, like someone else said I do a burnout, or stall out.

I have been driving manuals for over 20+ years.. Never had any problems with steep hills or haven't had to use a e-brake before.. The Hill Assist sometimes activates when on a hill.. It holds the car in place without rolling back while you give it gas and come off the clutch... IMO it slows you down.. I think it's a great tool for beginners, not experienced drivers... Sounds like you are an experienced driver, so you may not like it..

It takes 30 minutes to replace the sensor with one from an automatic. Problem solved, for good!! Did mine about a year ago and have never looked back... no more HSA!!! same thing with the skip shift, 15 minutes, simple hand tools!

My '62 Studebaker Lark Daytona (a really fast car--honest) had what they called a Hill Holder clutch. Worked like a charm every time. It was probably a lot simpler design than this new one--it had to be--it was 1962! If you let up even a little on the clutch pedal, or touched the gas pedal it released.

Not sure what the big deal is as mine seems to work fine. Maybe the hard brake idea is correct because it seems to be OK for me and I've driven standards my whole life.

It is terrible. First 2 things to do to an M6 is replace the yaw sensor, and install a skip shift eliminator.
