3.6L paper filter options
Any paper filter performance comparisons? I seem to recall someone doing a comparison of the various paper filters and Fram(?) might have come out on top.
Here's my rockauto options (I usually get parts from them): http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...arttype,6192,a I figure with money dropped into extending my warranty precludes doing any serious modding or tuning, so slightly better air filter and premium gas will be it. Looking online there doesn't seem to be a lot of benefit between paper filters (and only nominal performance benefits with even the oiled/performance filters) .

Interchangeable air filters? Interesting...
![]() Cool, I see that now when I look online. K&N has the same part number for all engines/models of Camaro. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...umber=92229651 ^^^ Looks like this is the part. $50 shipped is pretty steep (and the MSRP is a ripoff). Can I assume this is the cheapest option? Last edited by stoopid; 06-03-2014 at 09:57 AM. |

OK on initial installation, but most people over-oil when it's time for them to be serviced and end up with MAF contamination issues. It's really about filtration/flow ratio, anyway. KIS for the average enthusiast.

Oiled filters have better filtration and do not have any downsides I can think of... They last forever so if you spend $50 on a K&N filter instead of $10 every, what, 20k miles? You do the math. lol.
Btw, light mods don't void warranty instantly. Particularly if you don't drive it like you stole it. I have the 7/70k, for example.

Pretty sure even if you blow them off, when you hold the paper filter up to the sun and can't see through it, you need a new one...

If you can see through it, you've blown a hole in it and you do need a new one.
Oiled or dry, your choice. |

I found an AC Delco that appears to be the actual part (OE) on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Air-Filter-C...-/221440197761 Amazon (I have prime, so $35 shipped is sweet): http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-A3177C.../dp/B007QC1CY8 I might splurge for this if I can verify it's the correct part... Part verified as the ZL1 replacement OE. Ordered! Last edited by stoopid; 06-03-2014 at 03:08 PM. |
