So apparently they only do 1 run for each test? Thats pretty scientific.
So apparently there is no control to this yet again gov run mess. LOL. That would be like me having to shoot only 1 round from each of the 3 distances in the Marines to rifle qualify. |

It can be improved for 2011+. I am sure they might need to play with the passenger airbag. As far as the seat and the dash. Don't see that changing or need to be changed. Maybe the dash bottom if it's hitting the leg and causing leg points to go up. |

Merged,
Now we can discuss it in one place.

According to NHTSA' your safer in a 1992 Camaro as both a driver and a passenger. Your head injury criterion, chest deceleration g's and femur loads all tested better in a 1992 camaro than a 2010 camaro with dual front (didnt have a passenger airbag until 1993) curtain and side airbags.
Okay, I almost belive that. 1992 camaro: with 1 airbag Head Injury Criterion 585 583 Chest deceleration (g's) 39 42 Femur load l/r1 (lb) 717 / 627 150 / 174 2010 camaro: with 6 airbags Head Injury Criterion 661 626 Chest deceleration (g's) 53 49 Femur load l/r1 (lb) 908 / 866 280 / 390 Really Im at a higher risk for head injuries in a 2010?? really?? Is that even possible? |

Needs to crumple more to absorb more frontal impact and increase the de-acceleration rate (I think that's right.) As Vash points out now that they KNOW there is an issue they can go about correcting it. They can play around with where they have high-strength steel as opposed to normal strength. Adjust where bends in the metal are, or add bends if necessary, etc., etc. There have been instances where a certain model of car didn't perform as well as they would like and a few tweaks in the design achieved better results in the same model the next year.

A broken back, two broken wrists, a broken ankle, and a concussion... Just a little sore in the morning..lol.. The guy was lucky. Since we don't have any more info on that crash, or how fast he was going.etc.. It would be nice to know how has in order to compare it with the 40mph crash test dummy results. Quote:

I still do not feel 100% safe in my new Camaro not because of the 4 star rating but because I still do not know if my car is affected by the tremec broken tail shaft issue. So I haven't pushed my car yet with launch control or taken it to the track. I don't understand why when I call GM, they keep telling me to call back in a week and still have no info. This to me could be dangerous as a shaft breaking under heavy load can randomly decide to snap in the wrong direction and hurt the driver or passenger. Once I get an OK from GM, then I take it to the track..

My primary concern right now is the insurance costs. Those could be a dealbreaker.

Im just saying there is not a chance in hell of a 1992 camaro being safer at front impacts...especially with the old school air bag, and no airbag on the passenger side.
Something is seriously wrong with how they determine data if so. It must not take airbags into account, because the whole purpose of the damn thing is to slow your impact with the dashboard. So go ahead and take your head and whip it into the dash as fast as you can. It will probably hurt like a bitch. Now stack a few pillows there and try it. Its not going to hurt as much. Plus with the curtains and seat airbag there is less chance of you bouncing your face off the window afterwards. Something is wrong with how they collect data. One crash per side is not enough evidence to suggest anything. |

Insurance rates are determined based upon risk. There are many factors that determine risk. One of them is the overall safety of the vehicle. For example SUVs have higher insurance rates than cars typically because they have a rollover risk. Even though they'd win in an accident versus a car. So if you are at higher risk to be injured in a crash, you can be sure that your premiums will be higher. Medical bills are the most expensive part of a major accident. We can only hope that the rate difference will be something like 10% higher or less. Something that most people wouldn't really notice...
