Not sure if this is old news or not but my dealer just told me I could sign a waiver and keep my original key with the switchblade key fob so that's what I plan on doing.

Went to the service dept. today to get a leather wrapped steering wheel put on my 1LS and talked to the service manager about the recall. He stated you could decline the recall and keep your keys. Dont know how much truth is in this but i guess we'll find out.

I saw the new "key" set up today it is stupid they remove the key from the fob and don't put anything back but this small piece and the side is open like it has no key.
The new key with the fob on it the fob WILL hit your knee now.

Really no different than having other keys hanging off the old setup, they can hit your knee too, but its a free swinging item not a solid connection so you will not be turning it off if you bump them with your knee...

It is stupid as sh!t,it definitely looks like GM is CYA at the cost of having a nice key fob,and I don't hang any keys on my fob.

Only difference is that you'll have the gynormous fob as just a remote now. They should have reworked this better. Or like stated previous install a push to turn ignition.

Ok I am going to ask this What would you have done to get a new fob to the owners. They could have used the Silverado, Impala or other GM separate fob and key. The only problem is this no one is going to like it. One will say the Silverado FOBis ugly others will say the Impala FOB is ugly. My self I bought a Camaro not the key. Some of you sounds like you paid $40000 for the key and got the Camaro as a option.

Dude you've got some serious grammar/word usage problems there...you need to fix that, doesn't make any sense.

Houston here also. Simply told the service manager i wanted to refuse the recall and keep the switchblade keys and they let me take my new 2014 home same day. All i had to do was sign a piece of paper.

Has it occurred to anybody else that if Chevy had done it that way in the first place (with some Camaro-specific design), this thread would be a fraction of its current length (and, no doubt. controversy).

No. This thread wouldn't exist. There would be no asinine meaningless recall.

Same thing could have been said if they gave the Camaro the option of the proximity start. Or link the start to the owners brainwaves. Or make the Camaro so it was always running and you had to solve math problems to get in. Same thing would have happened if they never made the Camaro.
