I was an ASE certified technician in the 80's and into the 90's. If I got caught hitting a valve with a hammer to "unstick" it, I would have been fired.

Nope. They will NEVER give $48K as a trade and sell it for anything less than that. That is unless they're stupid. AND if this situation is true, you have every right to back out of the deal. Which (IF THIS IS TRUE) you should do immediately.

Hey, I just noticed where you're from. I am familiar with that area. Which dealer is it? Johnson Chevrolet is the closest to you, so is that it?

they sent the heads out to be machined I guess and are replacing all the valves...

Ban the troll. You're gullible if you think valves hitting pistons is okay. That would cause bearing wear/damage as well as gouges in the pistons. Those gouges will now be hot spots and could cause detonation. You could sand the gouges down. But why would you if it's under warranty. New motor time dude. Also, no damn chance of valve float with the stock rev limiter. Unless it's tuned and they raised the rev limit without putting in good springs and pushrods. I still say this is a troll.

If you're serious I would accept nothing less than a brand new complete engine including the blower. The only thing I would allow swapped over would be the accessories.
