A few questions.

1. have you already signed the paper work, I mean the actual purchase loan agreement?
2. if yes to question above when and where?

Please see and review the info below.

Home Equity Loans and Second Mortgages

Under a federal law called the Truth in Lending Act, you have until midnight of the third business day after a contract was signed to cancel:
  • a home improvement loan
  • a second mortgage, or
  • any other loan where you pledge your home as security (except for a first mortgage).
The lender must tell you about your right to cancel and must give you a cancellation form when you sign the loan papers. This three-business-day period may be extended for up to three years in certain circumstances

If the valves floated and kissed the pistons at all, I would insist on a new engine. There's no way anyone would be able to be sure if the piston's are still fine or not. Get the GM rep involved if need be, but politely insist on a new engine.

Since the ZL1 has a rev limiter, the only way I can think of for the engine to rev fast enough to float the valves, would be if someone downshifted and over-revved the engine that way.

yes its all finalized, and I never took the car off the lot so I could cancle the loan if I reallt pushed for it... but if I tell them I want a new motor and they refuse then that's the route ill take because knowing what I know know now about premature bearing wear and hot spots and what not that don't sit well with me at all

True. I didn't think of that. If they went from 3rd to 2nd and mechanically over-revved it that would cause it as the limiter can't stop a mechanical over-rev.

New engine or walk on the deal. You don't have possession of the car. Get a lawyer involved and/or GM Corporate at this point.

I should have given you more detailed info. The federal statue that controls 'truth and lending' only applies to mortgages or if you use your home as equity. However laws vary from state to state. In NJ the 3 day law apples too all contract deals. I would go the PA state website for truth and lending and start doing some research

It hasn't left the dealer. He needs to get a lawyer and/or GM Corporate involved.

Be polite, but firm, get a GM rep involved if need be, but insist on a new engine at this point.

How many times do you need to hear "Cancel the Deal" before you realize that THIS is what you should do?

I have a friend who lives near Johnson Motors. I gave him a call. Asked him to swing by and check out what's going on.

My God this guy... Listen Skippy, has the dealer flat out told you they are not replacing the engine or anything? If they have, you have dealt with the worst dealer on the face of the Earth. Yes you signed the papers, but you can't even physically move the car off of the lot. The engine is toast! I have never heard of such nonsense. Please, go talk to the dealer and inquire as to their plan of action. What are you going to do with a car and no engine? I would personally tell them NO DEAL and demand the deal be null and void! You purchased a car that is supposed to be mechanically sound. This is not worth it!!! Walk to the general manager and say, "I no longer want this car, the engine is shot. Void the deal.". Why would you still pursue this after the car has these major problems? Walk away...NOW! This is not the only Camaro in the world. There are hundreds of ZL1's to be had.

correct! they said until GM tells them that the scaring on the pistons will cause anything they are just going to get the heads machined and new valves and put it back together.... so basically they are going to throw parts at it until it runs correctly, im not settling for that, I got a meeting with the big wigs tomarrow over this crap, we will see how it goes
