resonated x pipe
I have long tubes, high flow cats and rear resonators replaced with Magna Flow competition axle back.
Car was was extremely loud. So I wrestled with x pipe or resonated x pipe. ..installed resonated x pipe, drove 20 mins, pulled into local muffler shop n had it removed and two straight pipes installed till I get the non resonated x pipe arrives. Car was way too quiet. Hopefully the regular x pipe will cut down some of the bark and raspiness |

It wont. The regular x-pipe will get rid of a LITTLE bit of the rasp, but the headers introduced a shit ton more rasp then the stock exhaust would've had.
I have the exact same setup on my car as you do.. long tubes, high flows, stock catback with muffler deletes (same thing as magnaflow competition axle back) with 4" tips. It was pretty loud, so I put the resonated X on there and now it's "quiet". It's definitely way quieter then with the h-pipe, but it sounds really deep and grumply and screams when WOT. The problem is its "quiet" from inside the car...this car has so much sound deadening in it that it makes everything sound quiet lol.

Keep in mind that your ears might have adjusted to the "loud" setup as most everyone eventually does

You probably should have given the resonated X a little more time to develop.....as it gets used the sound will get a little louder, deeper tone sort of like a break in period....that's according to Magnaflow's website..... Our setups sound pretty similar.....not sure if you have an auto or a manual, but with an auto the stock resonator for me was just a hair too raspy at WOT....... I'm betting that if I hadn't heard the car with the stock resonator on it and the rest straight piped, the resonated X would be pretty much perfect for me. If anything I may try a set of 4 inch tips instead of the stock 3 inch just to see if I can get just a little more sound. According to my mechanic friend there is a noticeable difference by getting a bigger tip put on the end of the pipes at the rear end.

Magnaflow is 5". It was quieter than when I first put the magnaflow competition axle back on.
Car is much easier to drive when you can can hear it. |

So a resonated x-pipe would cut down on some drone in 4th in-town driving and 6th on the highway when going up an incline? I just have Borla Touring on (Chevy Performance part) plus its a vert.

It's the mufflers job to ultimately take care of that. |

I was afraid someone was going to say that. Maybe a sound deadening mat?

The resonated X has a little bit of drone but its really not bad at all.........if you want to kill all the drone install some J- pipes or one other type is the heimholtz pipe......(I think that's the name...someone on here has a thread on it with pics) looks weird as hell but they say it works. One of my club guys put in an H- pipe where his resonator was and is cammed with headers and basically straight piped and according to my friend who has ridden in the car there isn't a bit of a problem inside the car, but its nasty sounding when you hear him go down the highway. I can't confirm the cabin noise because I haven't ridden with him, but a couple weeks ago while I was on duty he passed me going the opposite direction on the highway and it made me turn my head.

Resonators always help with drone and rasp. But if your car drones bad say on the highway, you might need different mufflers. I swapped to Hooker Maxflows for that reason.

J Pipes have no effect on emissions. They are simply a noise canceling device.
