Think of it this way: with ALL the bits added vs. the Z51, it ONLY gained 100 lb.

Glass MUCH more than 1/2 full...

Bottom line is all cars are gaining weight due to regulations and equipment. Even super cars are gaining weight. However the good news is HP is growing with it.

Car is still significantly heavier than most people imagined. Not to mention it has nothing in common with previous Z06 cars. That's what I don't like about this car.

Do you mean mostly the forced induction? It seems that, to make the numbers they got on HP and torque, the design team had to make a significant break from the past. I tend to prefer N.A. engines, especially on track, but the Z06 numbers are impressive. The curb weight, less so...

Basically, the entire package. I would rather it be a stripped down, hard top only, manual only, N/A engine with the DSSV dampers off the Z/28. I would want it to be as track focused as possible while being barely street legal. What I loved about the previous two Z06s is they were fast because they were so well balanced, not because they had ridiculously high horsepower.

I get they put an auto in it because people demanded it but those people don't really want a Z06. I know they made it convertible because people demanded it but those people don't really want a Z06.

Maybe that's a recipe for the GS?

YES! It's pretty clear that the new Z06 is trying to capture a greater share of the "luxury GT" market, so an offshoot of the car -- that's more like the Z/28, in terms of "no compromises" -- would be tremendous.

It's interesting that the Viper tried to tone down the car to increase sales -- and that Viper sales have tanked. From what I can tell talking to dealers, the new Z06 does not seem to have that issue...

I hope so but, with C8 development already started, I don't see them doing any more C7s.

I could see one more variant. A super track focused Corvette. Premium materials for lower weight. Not anything I could afford mind you but definitely something highly lustworthy.

I don't see how a pure track Corvette can have all that much in common with the Z06 outside the wide body chassis and brakes.

I could see a more track focused C7 variant coming. I just think they should have saved Z06 for it and called this car a ZR1.

It's a real head scratcher after how well GM got the 5th Gen Camaro lineup from SS, 1LE, ZL1 and Z/28 that they could mix up the Z06 and ZR1 for the C7.
