Warranty (and we're only talking about drivetrain warranty here) gone isn't an issue for most of us. Current owners, or prospective buyers. And if it is, you shouldn't be modding cars or looking to buy a modded car. Resale value is not always gone. I've built, enjoyed, traded, and sold enough cars to know that as long as the work is done by a reputable shop, it isn't as much of an issue as some folks like to claim it is. Even when I traded my modded 2011 SS in for the ZL1, the dealership that had it on their lot found the right buyer. The prospective buyer made one phone call to the shop that built it, and that sold the deal for him. He lives here in the same town I do and I just talked to him a few weeks ago. Money invested in mods are not always gone. Trade in it is, private sale not necessarily. Again, it depends on who did the work. Typically, if it's an enthusiast that is buying the car and they know the shop or company that did the work it can be an advantage and help with the sale. But in a typical situation you should probably expect 25 cents on the dollar for mods. Labor money...yeah, gone. Agreed. No one should be expecting to recoup that money. And the reason that cars don't sell in the classifieds very easily is because most folks aren't looking to purchase outright. There are very few cash buyers out there. Typically it's someone that's wanting to go to a newer model, upgrade trim, go from V6 to V8, etc... And private sales are hard to convert into trades once you get multiple banks and liens involved. Especially when people tend to owe more than the car is worth and have very little cash available. If you've got a desirable car, are looking to move it at the right price, and find the right buyer you can easily sell a car via private sale. I've done it four times in the last 10-12 years, and each car was modded. Unfortunately, most cars in the classifieds on this forum are overpriced. What it's worth to you isn't necessarily what it's worth to anyone else. Sticker on my 2013 ZL1 was just over $60k, and I paid right around $55k for it if I remember correctly. I've got less that $6k into it in mods (all done by a reputable shop) and have no doubt that this car would fetch $45k on ebay. And I'd be perfectly happy with that, if I wanted to sell it. |

[QUOTE=Whos_Drivin;7917340]Cool..... you do realize I was just joking
Thats why I had the popcoprn ![]() I find this thread hilarious. The question calls out for calls out for good and bad on both camaro and dodge however if anyone says anything good about dodge they are considered a troll by a few. People like that I can not take serious. They are way to one sided and logic is out the door. Unless you say something they believe you will always be wrong no matter what the facts are.

The hellcat is more expensive than the zl1? So shouldn't the hellcat be faster? People on here are worried about beating the Hellcat. GM will get there but the new 6 gen camaro will be out then that generation ZL1/Z28 will need to come down the pipeline. Best guess - 2017!!!! So if you want to own a ZL1 AND beat a Hellcat - you need to mod it. I have modded cars and sold them plenty of times before. it takes the right buyer and therefore takes a little longer to sell but you can get a fair amount out of it. If you are worried about resale value - then dont do a damn thing but also dont worry about being slower than a hellcat either |

Or you can take the attitude of "who cares if I loose money because it was fun". I traded my modded 750rwhp 2011 C6 into the same dealer I bought it brand new from. Having a relationship with the dealer sure helped me. I got less than I would have if I sold it private party, but I also got way more than another dealer would have given me. Plus that trade in money came off the price of my ZL1 and I saved a lot in taxes. I mod for my enjoyment. I don't expect to get any of it back. Like a trip to Vegas, lol.

You dont need to mod a ZL1 to beat a Hellcat......... but I have been stock since I got the car in 2012. Getting ready to put on headers and a cold air.

Doesn't matter to me - i still prefer the ZL1. But a challenger hellcat on drag radials should easily run 11.70s. If it doesnt then maybe just stick to the drive-in? |
